Afternoon Diners

Flo, Ed, Brent, Jan and I will have a [B] and if Rob would like that UP Mug Filled I will buy.

Odd having Monday off. I have to work the 4th so the [D)] is running my store. Worried about the Store Order that should have been sent in today. [^o)]

Urich You mean the Windsor name is Not After A Ford Engine![:-^] Yes I knew that part of the story.

Rob Good to see you at the Dinner twices in one day yet! [:O]

Train Front Still working the CB&Q and B&O F7’s. Added the C&O RS2 and B&O GP9 to the mix.

Later, Ken

Good late afternoon folks! Early evening… Whatever.

Chloe, I’ll have a plate of stir fried chicken breast with melon (zucchini) over long grain brown rice. Also a Southern Comfort Manhatan would be great as well… Thank you Ma’am!

I am all set to celebrate the 4th. Bought a fifth on the third… My son and his family are on vacation on an island on the coast of Maine right now so I will be celebrating it here at home by myself I guess. The neighborhood 4th. of July Peeraid will be going by just a hundred feet or so up the street (on the cross street) tomorrow at 10AM. Guess I will be up and likely looking out the window to see what they have in it this year. If I am dressed by that early time in the morning I may even go out and sit and watch it on my deck. Who knows?

I also will need to drive over to Son’s house and take care of the kitties tomorrow (empty and clean litter box and make sure water and food dispensers are working properly). One of their dogs is in the kennel while they are gone. He is their elderly Beagle. I hope he does OK. He has had quite a bad year and almost died a few months ago. The little Shih Tzu doggie is with them on vacation. Son called last night and said the dog threw up in the car three times during the trip… Car sick big time. Guess he is OK now that they reached the destination…

I have been putting the final touches on the next newsletter for the NMRA Division. Hope to send it out via email tonight. I too am looking for a new place to store the photos I out on line as PB has turned evil and greedy I guess… As soon as get a new accoun t someplace I will just tell PB where to go and delete the account. Too bad, they used to be a great site… I have over 4 TB of storage right here on my drives, so the full res and copies of the low res photos I have are all right here sitting nex

And Here Are The Photos!

YGW’s Hobby Barn Update…

More progress on the Hobby barn. Today we are installing two hundred and sixty feet of conduit. Two rows of 130’ each which includes the four “sweeps” ( big curved pipe to go from the underground portion to the panels.) This will carry power from the house to the garage for power for the hobby barn.

An unexpected time consuming job is filling in the deep ruts caused by concrete trucks and dump trucks. There are a lot of pickup loads shoveled into the ruts!

In 1000 AD Leif Eriksson was trying to install a new over the stove microwave for the wife and because of the manufacturer changing the duct work from rectangle to round decided to take a break and go fishing. So he loaded up the long boats and headed out. Getting lost in the fog he hit landfall and there on the beach was a sign that read Newfoundland. After a few days of camping out, a voice from the heavens came forth telling Leif that he must build a railroad across this great land and fill a train with two of every species of European and throw them out in pairs at regular intervals as the train travels across this fair land.

Well, leif said “we don’t need no stinkin train” and in 1011 AD left Newfoundland in his longboat without having built the railway.

After a litany of explorers touched the America’s, the first permanent European colony in North America was in 1604 called Acadia. At this time the population of the America’s was well over 100 million.

As time went by, larger more organized communities began to form, new arrivals as well as those that had been here for 10s of thousands of years started to come together as industrialization really began to take hold. You could argue that letting the Europeans in was the real start of globalization.[(-D]

Canada elected a foreigner (John A Macdonald) to be its first Prime Minister in 1867. Canada consisted of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Now John A. had an awesome electric train layout back home in Scotland and missed it terribly so he decided to build the longest railroad on the planet in his new home of Canada. So he said to all the colonies spread out North of the 49th that if you want rail service with really cool stations, sign up and join Canada. The rest is history.[swg]

Ray, the name Hayward plays big on my family history as well. Back in the late 1700s the Haywards settled the Swan River Valley in Manitoba, I was born in Winnipeg. ( not in the 1700s, it just feels like it some days ) Another biggie is the name, Harvey.

The majority immigrated from Ipswitch, Suffolk, England.

Well, that’s one way to tell the story![(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

Thanks for all the history lessons! I really enjoy that stuff even though I hated History in High School. I could never remember the dates.[D)][(-D]

I am now able to post into the forum via Flickr thanks to EC Mills in the thread, “Alternatives to PhotoBucket” … You can see my first one in that thread and my next two in the WPF thread.

Cheers.

# # United States of America !

Happy birthday USA!!!

All the best to everyone in the States, happy 4th of July.

Hey gang,

Happy Independence Day! Just wondering where a good place to try posting photos for the first time might be. Is there a thread for trial and error?

Randy

Gidday Chloe, could you please get Brent a large soothing drink. Leif Eriksson installing a microwave???!!! Good grief, next he’ll be saying that the Norse were the first Europeans who discovered Canada. We of Irish descent know that that honour went to St Brendan the Navigator.[swg]

As we’re visiting Canada I found this video of a mobile sauna.

“I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don’t know the answer”

Well Randy, I don’t know if you have been following the two threads on alternatives to Photo Bucket. The bottom line is that you don’t want to use Photo Bucket unless you want to spend a LOT of money for something that is still offered for free on several other sites.

Here are the threads. There are lots of recommendations for photo hosting sites:

Hi Bear.

With respect, that’s a rather European view. There were people who discovered North America long before the Irish. We Canadians have done an abysmal job of recognizing and respecting our Indigenous people, so I have to give credit where credit is due. My family owned a plot of land on the Manitoulin Island. There is a quarry on that property that was used almost 10,000 years ago by our indigenous people to manufacture flint arrowheads and spear points. They discovered North America! Let’s get it right please!

Respectfully,

Dave

My little steamer is back from the repair shop! It took a little longer than announced, but the job was perfectly done and I am happy with it!

I will post pictures as soon as I can take them - it´s too dark at the moment as we are bound for more rain coming down!

Today´s is also my Patron Saint´s Day - if I were a member of Roman Catholic congregation.

Ah Dave! You obviously didn’t notice the [swg] after my rather ambitious and historically unproven statement, besides while you mentioned you hated history because of the dates; learning dates by rote isn’t the study of history, it’s about events and their effect on people!
Apart from Antarctica, you will find in every place that the many and various European explorers “discovered”, there were already inhabitants. How those people were treated was beyond the scope of my tongue in cheek remark, for which I make no apology!
Cheers, the un-PC Bear.

Shortly after lunching on a small stack of Petra´s Famous Pancakes (PFP), it cleared up for a moment and I was able to shoot a few pictures of the little steamer, which now roams the tracks of my RhB Engiadina HOm layout!

The last picture clearly shows the missing culprit - the smoke stack lid now duly in place!

Extra strong coffee in a APACHE RAILWAY mug, please and thanks.

***YGW, terrific progress on the new hobby room, etc… That is going to be really nice!

***Ulrich, those RhB Engiadina HOm layout photos are fantastic. Excellent detailing.

Have a great day all.

Cheers! [C):-)] Rob

Good morning, America, how are you? Happy 241st birthday.

I’ll have my usual sausage and potato scramble, black coffee, and OJ.

Also happy 150th to our friends to the north. I am looking forward to taking the train from Montreal to Halifax this fall. I’ve heard it’s beautful and hopefully the fall colors will be at their peak.

Glad to see that the issues with Photobucket are proving to be no more than a speed bump as everyone seems to be finding alternatives. Looking forward to future WPF and Show me Something offerings.

I need to take pictures to see all the detail [(-D]

How´s this one?

Happy July the fourth to all those in the United States and its territories.[Y] I really like to take the time out to reflect on how good things are as far as quality of life and what better time to do it than our national celebrations.

Bear, you made me look![(-D] St. Brendan EH! Comparable to many stories from over the eon’s, Once you employ critical thinking or rational thought the response is usually uh huh.[:^)][(-D]

I must admit I am one who enjoys throwing outrages comments into conversations just to see if anyone is thinking about what is being said. My sister is my biggest target[(-D] I love her dearly but she seems to accept everything she hears. The worst part about it is no matter how outrages or ridiculous my comment, she always thinks I’m serious.[(-D]

Speaking of migration (new world and all that stuff) both my kids have always gotten the next years curriculum and started on next years school projects in the summer. That makes for a more relaxed school year once it starts. Right now she is working on a genetics/evolution project. It is surprising how much taller people have gotten over the centuries as it has been recorded. What is really a shocker is their artist renditions of where we are going barring outside and/or environmental influences. The number of people being born today without a small toe is taking off and eventually, we will only have one big toe on the end of our foot. Do to migration and multiracial offspring we will all be one colour and will not look like we do today. My daughter sure gets me reading some fascinating stuff.

Enjoy the day all.
