Arrived home from a hospital visit. To be honest it was a waste of time. The nurse was forever promoting vaccine injections. I am not interested.
I have other challenges in life. Got to get Dawn better. Hopefully she on the right side of recovery. Could be a while though. Fortunately I am okay. Cannot have both of us down.
‘Zephyrus’ Passing through Roseville Station. The locomotive used to be ‘Percy’ from Thomas the Tank range, but was hardly ran. Remove the face and a repaint into Kirkstall & East Seacroft Railway livery gives a new lease of life.
Judy’s Thursday is our Friday. It usually starts with a couple of cold brewski’s, while adjourning to the kitchen to start the slow simmering of shroomage, around six to put over our steaks.
These are about an hour into it, after the glass cover had been removed. When done, they will be carmelized and chocolate brown in colour.
The thing about mushrooms is, you never expose them to even a drop of water, or they will turn into rubber.
I’ve converted five mushrooms haters into mushroom lovers. Roy and Dominic found Roy’s son and Dominic’s brother, hovering over the stove picking them out of the cast iron skillet, while we were all coming in off the porch to grab another brewski
They always hated mushrooms thier whole life.
Here, after the four finger Tom Thumb pinch of organic sugar had hapened, and the caramelization had taken place
Butter, steak seasoning, Worcestershire, sugar, white button mushrooms, and squishing with a spatula several times during the process.
A whole lotta love, and Thats it!
although us lame Kids split a steak, not to ingest too much red meat. It was done a bit more than liked by me. But tender and juicy with the shrooms, and bourbon baked beans.
Thanks for your concern, and wish we could have had you over, so you could have had the Christopher sampler
Today, the 25th of April is ANZAC Day, the day back in 1915 when the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed on the Gallipoli Peninsular, Turkey, in World War 1. Though we also celebrate Armistice Day 11 November, today is the day we honour and remember all veterans who served in the 2nd Boer War (South Africa) , WW1, WW2, Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Afghanistan, and various other conflicts and peacekeeping operations around the world.
While not an overall practice in the early days of railways in New Zealand, some steam locomotives were named, this practice being discontinued in 1877 with the one exception of NZGR Ab class 4-6-2 locomotive Ab 608, built in 1915, being named “Passchendaele” in 1925, in honour of the New Zealand Railway staff who had been killed in the First World War.
(On the 12th of October 1917 during the Battle of Passchendaele, (the 3rd Battle of Ypres), the New Zealand Division suffered its heaviest casualties of WW1.)
Here’s a photo of Ab608 “Passchendaele” taken by Albert Percy Godber…
Good morning Diners. A cold, cloudy day.
A coffee on the go please, Flo.
Dawn says she feels she has been hit with a sledgehammer. It wasn’t me. I don’t have one.
Here is the LION and nothing much is new. Not even the pork they try to feed to us. Imagine pork and m-pots twice in one day.
Oh well, I can call for a bus, sign out and go to a steak place whenever I can afford it.
I’ll have to try that cash machine in the lobby.
Yes the machine will work, but only if I know my pin. I have never used that before.
Tyme for breakfast. Four Eggs Two Sausages and a sweet bun of some sort.
Norwalk had a soccer game last night against Ankeny Centennial… We lost 0-1 (Varsity only), and the Varsity girls played Ames HS and won 3-1 (they cancelled the JV game due to the weather).
We had a big storm last night at around 10 PM, we lost a tree but me and the rest of the family are going to clean up the yard (thank God no tornadoes!)
Teagan’s b-day is coming up and I need gift ideas for her (aside from the SD70MACs that I got her)
I hope everyone will have a good Friday, especially because it’s Front-End-Friday!
Good afternoon Diners. A late lunch as I have been checking on Dawn. Still not 100% by a long way, but improving. She is getting up, so that is a good sign.
With some luck I might make it to the train room later.
A while back I saw the advertisement for Manning Wardle ‘L Class’ locomotives. Lovely models indeed. To buy they were on ‘pre-order’. I dislike pre-order, but it is the way these days. I resisted the temptation.
Late last week I received a ‘final date’ to pre-order the locomotive. Yes, I had to order.
