Good morning from the sunny West Coast where it is 12c.
Wife is off to a dog show for four days of showing, she comes home every night with this one but it is long days.
Both CN and CP are running ads for conductor jobs, even on TV. Signing and re-location bonuses are pretty darn good. I know a couple of young guys who went that direction about five years ago and just love it. I could have worked for the railways anything outside works for me, that includes driving a train where the scenery is always changing.
Had two uncles who drove trains out of Revelstoke, I found their shop talk fascinating.
I was always outside with my job, lots of driving but the view was always changing. One day the regional manager came running after me and said “I need you to take over”! I said , “take over what”? Apparently the Superintendent had suffered a heart attack and no one above him knew how things really worked. I ended up riding a desk for six months until they got a replacement. I was not happy sitting on my butt.
Going to be a lazy day today, nothing needs fixing, I am always right on top of anything that breaks or wears out. A couple of contractors will be in and out to do small things while the mud dries.
My wife is a Veterinary Surgeon with a few extra specialist degrees including Repro, Genetics, Nutrition, Agriculture and a few more. She went to Vet school a couple of years longer than most Vets do. We got married when I was 40, I paid off her car loan and what was left of her student loan. She had a house and a mortgage. So she went to school for eight years post secondary, had to still live and pay the bills but had no serious income. In that eight years I worked my good paying blue collar job. We worked out what her education cost her and loss of real income while going to school and how long it would take for her to just break even with me once she had started work, it was shocking.
So Gabe, a gas station job is something that puts you through University. A railroad job or a job in the resource industry somewhere in the world will get you six figures if you work hard. Make a decision and get going.
Time to play a few tunes to keep the Arthritis in my hands in check and then hop on the Deere.
All the best to all.
