June Coffee Pot 17 years and going with eggs, ham, sausage, pancakes and waffles. Enjoy.

My heart’s with you Wayne. They’re coming to set up my estate sale on Thursday and I’ve been watching as some of the trains I sold go on Ebay. Saying “It’s tough” is inadequate.

Well you could get some here in SoCal.

Thanks Becky!

You know, I was going to start a thread on this particular topic, but decided not to. Anyway, here’s the lesson:

While the BIL is still very much alive although in poor health, he could have seen this coming and prepared for it. He had plenty of time. Call it a state of denial, call it a hoarder mentality where he just couldn’t let anything go, call it what you like, but the cold fact of the matter is all of us are going to get to that point sooner or later.

So to all, be realistic. Realize the time’s going to come when your stuff’s going to have to go. Don’t hold onto it until the bitter end and leave your families with a mess to clean up. Unload while YOU are still capable. YOU know what you paid for it. YOU should have an idea what you can get for it. YOU are the expert others will wish they were. And while BIL is loved by his siblings who are dreading the day when “THE phone call” comes you should have heard the way he was cursed by those siblings who had to deal with the carnage.

Of course, none of this applies to those struck down suddenly, that could happen to anyone.

Food for thought, for what it’s worth.

Mornin’ all!

Got up early to go walking with Tyler before the heat sets in. Still disgusting outside, 74° with over 80% humidity. But I got in my 2.3 mile hill walk.

Hope everyone got a chance to look at my viaduct thread, will add more to it later today.

Yesterday I got blindsided at work twice. We have a new feature rolling out which the owner has been really pushing for. I haven’t done much of the work, a lot of it has been front end stuff done by our team in Guatemala, but I’ve done crucial internal components along with database design. So we were supposed to roll this out today, with tomorrow being a contingency. That was really wishful thinking by the owner, no one else thought it would be ready or were comfortable pushing it out. Fortunately it’s been moved to next week. Anyway, on my end, all of a sudden something I built back in March and April isn’t working properly. So I start digging into what I built, trying to track it down. Nope, seems to be working properly. When we finally shake it out, the Guatemala team changed how it was being used without telling me or anyone who should be aware of it. BRILLIANT!

The second gotcha involved another piece of functionality I built to work in a couple specific instances. I got an error report that it wasn’t working in a different area. I’m like: “What are you talking about? It’s not supposed to.” Well we do a bit of digging, and find that someone snuck this addition into the spec without telling us. And, of course, Guatemala just blindly coded against the spec without thinking of telling me this was expected. That wasn’t a big deal to add, but the day before this is supposed to go into production?

Gotta run out to pick up a coffee cake for the boys. Promised them we’d do that this week.

Have a good one!

Good Morning -

Glad to see the Chief improving!!

Kev - I couldn’t see the video, but congas to your grand-daughter

Fife - Glad you found a “home” on the Eagle…sooner or later, I’m gonna make good on that visit threat----especially since Jenni loves the train rides - We have a 7 Aug date with the 611 in Strasberg…

Doug - I’m SURE there is no restriction to come to Jersey, since Nesome’s illegitimate brother runs the state…

Becky - I can only imagine…I’m confident you get back better than ever, you are too talented. The opportunity will arise…

Firelock - Sorry about your BIL - nice you had time to “visit” us here in the Socialist Republic of New Jersey. Diner food is definetly a thing, and Pork Roll is the best…IF you are here for Turkey Day - may I remind you that the Edison Train Show is Sunday of that weekend. The future Mrs. and I always attend on Sunday. So, if we can get Spanky out of Wayne…We don’t always buy, but browsing is free, and you never know whats for sale.

Summer is in full swing here, 90+ until Saturday

On Sunday a failed attempt to do the door hinges on Jenni’s Charger was an ultimate fail - She called in reinforcements to get the door back on - yeah, new hinges will be purchased in Carlisle next weekend.

Was at a viewing for a local past chief and legend/mentor last Friday and going to a viewing tonight for a line of duty death for local firefighter. It sucks, but it’s only right to honor those that volunteer for firefighter.

Off to see the wizard - or work…

I’m curious what a New Jersey type diner is.

I went to a strip mall type restraunt yesterday near me that had a good buffet. I love all you can eat and have found a home. I’m so glad buffets are coming back, I was afraid they were done for because of the hysteria.

I was a hourly employee all my life but I don’t need the money from selling trains. Still I guess I should make a list and send it to Trainz of at least some of my junk or not real good trains.

I’m here. 90 degrees and sunny.

A little slower this AM. Climbing back up though. Meds help.

Get my shower and I will feel a lot better. Going without supplemental O2 a lot and blood ox staying up. Would not go outside today.

Probably not make it back to the PC tonight. Someone start a new Pot.

Have a good one.

Hot, Humid and wet is the news here. [st]

Was thinking of going north for the week but had a problem. Well I did it, broke the Gator yesterday. Had a full bed of CA-6 gravel in it and went to set the parking break and Snapped the parking brake cable. Crap! Looking on line I am not the first to have that happen.

When it comes to Green, Get ready to Pay! $110.00 for a $25.00 cable and $175.00 to install it, and they got you by the short hairs because they don’t publish how to make the needed adjustments unless you want to pay $161.00 for the repair book!!!. Worse part they know the cable is junk! They have replaced the old part number with a new one. That tells me after my years in engineering at Cat they had to flush the system of the bad ones. Hope this one is better. The world of today. WOW. Hard to face the sticker shock after fixing almost anything that has broken all my life but that is how these places want it. I called three dealers and got three prices??? One place said they could not work on it for six weeks??? So I put it on the trailer and drove it 35 miles to Dwight Il. to get it by next week and the price I posted. [:(!] [soapbox]

All of you have a great holiday. [Y]

No sooner said than done Mr. Vega! Here 'ya go!

(Give it a minute to load.)

Been to 4 of those: the Colonial Diner, Lyndhurst, the Jackson Hole Diner, Englewood, the White Rose Diner, Linden and the Summit Diner, Summit

For you Train guys in and around NJ, if you are a Blue Comet fan, this is the place to go:

This used to be the Golden Coach (The Roach Coach, lol) I worked there in High School, food is tremendous and plentiful:

There are a few other but those are still classic diners we go to.

The Princeton Diner on US 1 is very good as well.

Oh 'Devil, the menus at those diners look so goooood!

I don’t know what everyone’s standards are, but when we go to a diner Lady Firestorm judges it by how good the hot turkey sandwich is and I judge it by how good the burgers are. Our late friend Charlie who accompanied us on a lot of diner visits used to judge them by either the pork roast or the meat loaf.

And we all agreed if it’s got a “Super Lumberjack” selection on the breakfast menu it’s a good place to go!

By the way, any of you ever hear of John Baeder, the photo-realist painter who specializes in subjects like diners? Here’s his website, check under “Oil” and “Watercolor” and prepare to be amazed. Hey, maybe you’ll even recognize a few places!

http://www.johnbaeder.com/

I’m hip. That’s why we did garage sales for six years. We decided it was far better to downs

Mornin’ boys. Mornin’ Becky. Rain and 68 along the Allegany front-range. Been like an Eagle lately; Take It Easy. Did pay a visit with my neighbor, John. He is still healing from his surgery, but will be in cancer treatment in a couple weeks. May ride up the mountain to visit with Dad later.

Afternoon all!

Nice work by LAPD and LAFD to blow up a semi, a few cars, and a couple of blocks of windows attempting to detonate illegal fireworks in a bomb chamber in the middle of a suburban street. 16 or 17 people injured. Youtube it - quite amazing lack of judgement. Surprised it did not make local or national news last night.

Ah, NJ style (and PA and NY) diners. What sets them apart is the food is prepared fresh and to order. Served hot and reasonably priced for the quantity one receives. None of this pre-prepped garbage one sees in all the chain restaurants now, inc high end restaurants.
