Better than a minor being damaged, that is for sure!

The “site” has always been there, the mainline railroads don’t use it anymore, I believe since the Lucin Cutoff was completed. It’s operated by the National Park Service now, so the equipment operator was a government employee.
The rails were salvaged for the war effort in 1942, so these are probably modern recreations for the site. And by the way, it is Promontgory SUMMIT, not point!

The Jupiter has been converted to burn wood (about 90 tons per year) and the #119 has been converted to burn coal (about 50 tons per year). It has been a long 48 hours but bot locomotives have been completely examined from pilot to tender couple they survived just fine. The crew finished removing the remains of Jupiter’s pilot and the engine is fully operational. They dismantled it rather than just tearing it off - so that the fabricator would have all the original parts, as well as the original drawings to rebuild.
