K-Line Plymouth Switchers

Is there room in the body of a K-Line Plymouth Switcher to install a TMCC upgrade?

Believe it has been done using ERR stuff but I don’t believe they are available any longer.

TAS is the company that no longer sells to the public. ERR is still selling to the public. Give them a call they should be able to help. They have helped me out in the past. There phone number is (408) 454-4127 or (408) 454-4128

ERR quit making/selling the BEEP board which I believe was the one used for the Plymouth switcher, no sound just command control.

I think ERR has something new and smaller on the way to replace the BEEP board they stopped selling.

As a side note of caution, I have had two of these locomotives and while they looked great BOTH of them had the boards burn out and when I took one of them into the repair shop, the guy told me that that was a fatal flaw in the design and they were not worth fixing. Just thought I should pass that on.

P.S.

The repair shop also told me that they have had NUMEROUS complaints of the same problem. I posted this some time ago on here and nobody heard about the problem I was describing then.

Are you talking about a problem with the design of the board or the design of the locomotive? I have not had a problem with mine, but it lacks any electronics upgrades.

I know what asch is talking about; it’s the board. I’ve had my hands on 3 switchers and everyone cooked the board. One even toasted the replacement. So it’s 100% failure rate for me. You other guys are just lucky. The “good” news is that it doesn’t take long for them to fail, so if you have had yours for awhile you are probably OK

That’s really good information. I don’t have one but I was considering it. I don’t really need one, however, so this saved me a few bucks.

Your question got side tracked. If you are going to convert it to TMCC, you don’t need the factory board, so it doesn’t matter if it is burned out. May be able to find a good deal as long as the motor works.
