Least Favorite Diesel?

OK, so what is you least favorite diesel loco?

LC

To work on & maintain it would have to be the SW-1200, everything is crammed under the hood, it’s dirty, and changing the generator brushes, especially the bottom ones SUCKS!!! It’s a tie however with the SD-80 mac, way too much technology thats really unreliable , difficult to trouble shoot without a million dollars in spare parts(if their even available in the US)
Randy

OOps , let my qualify that statement a bit , when I was an engineer, I never met an engine I didn’t like.
Randy

For me it’s anything with desktop controls. Give me a control stand any day. Oh and any Dash 7 series GE too…

LC

Anywide cab…

Toasters. [}:)]

Toasters belong in the kitchen, not on the rails. [;)]

Any desk top, computer controlled, electronic air brake equipped locomotive.

Any AC traction EMD besides the SD70MAC and 80MAC.

I never liked the looks of the F Units.

macguy is crazy! How could you not like the F-units. The ones I really do not like are any GE. Either their cold, or they burning

Don’t really know why, never liked the looks of them.

– What happened to the favourite loco thread?[?]

least favorite diesel? hmm…

I never met a diesel i didn’t like
Let me just say I don’t like a lot of the new stuff it is all beginning to look the same to me and they are beginning to loose character. I love the unusual.

Absolutely GENESIS!!

I like F-units, E-units, PA’s, FA’s, Sharks. Rather say what I like.

I agree that the Genesis reminds me of a giant razor blade commercial- squared off, stainless steel shoebox on wheels. I’ve heard about the “control desk” controversy, too- it’s an uncomfortable arrangment for an engineer to operate on a long haul.

Since I’m not an engineer, I have to judge a lot of what I don’t like by appearances. I never saw a Southern Pacific diesel I liked, because they were all rusty and dirty when I saw them. That’s a function of a railroad getting ready to go belly up… trying to make do with what you have, with as little attention to maintenance and appearance as you can get away with.

I don’t like the way KCS locomotives look. I can’t put my finger on why, exactly- they sure are visible from a safety point of view, and I guess they do the job from a running standpoint. They just look, ah, plain ol’ ugly. Give me an old Santa Fe Warbonnet any day of the week.

The 50 series electronics are terrible, I try to avoid them.
Randy

Good one,Jim!!![;)]

Have to agree. Was probably too young to appreciate them. Not against cowl units in general (Love CN variants), just don’t like Fs, Es, or PAs.

GE B-23-7 has to be one of the worst. Cramped cab space, pull like crap, and the walkways are so small you have to weigh 100lbs to not risk ripping your clothes on a bolt or such.

Dude F units look good. I only wish Burlington didn’t start trading in their F2s in 67 for GP40s. I wi***hose cool looking motors would have survived into the mid 70s. Could you see four of those on the front of a 60 car coal train? And what about BN 1+2? Those are cool looking engines if I ever knew one. The F unit is like the Cadillac of railroading! GOT TO LOVE THEM.

I like all engines. But one of my least liked ones is the BL2. Looks too european if anything. Take off the automatic coupler and put some bumpers on it and it’s British! No offense to the Europeans because I’m not saying their locos look bad, it’s just there’s no EMD heritage to that engine. If you put it next to a F unit it would look like crap.
