Let's Do Railroad Stations

I just posted a response on a previous post about a railroad station that dstarr, (David), posted. It is a picture of a station that he scratched built out of fiber board, bass wood, and shingles; it is beautiful, at least for me.

We see a lot of really nice modeling on this forum and I would like to see some railroad stations that I think would be of interest.

And dstarr if you read this place your scratched model here so more folks can see it.

Thanks,

Robert Sylvester WTRR

Here is a wood structure I did.

At the end of every Model RailCast Video Episode, I have a cute little station scene. Check it out, if you want. If you want to know more of MRCV, click this link and watch the video.

Why thanks. With an invite like that how can I go wrong? By the way, your depot is very good too. I especially like the 6 over 6 window sash and the passenger rain shed.

Here we are full front view. The track has been brush painted with Floquil Rust, but it needs ballast. The passengers came from Micro Mark, unpainted, in a plastic bag. I hand painted them in assorted railroad colors from my paint shelf. The vehicles are 1:87 toys from Walmart, purchased back when Walmart was selling them.

The train order signal is cut out of shim brass with scissors. The chimney brick is a “texture” downloaded from the net and resized and printed on my low end inkjet printer. The gables are soft pine, ripped into a triangular shape with my radial arm saw and them trimmed to length. The roof is curved, and to get a reasonable fit I placed sand paper on the roof and rubbed the gable to be back and forth until I was happy with the fit.

Here’s the coal drag pulling in, to the disappointment of the waiting passengers. The grass is saw dust from the shop, died green and sprinkled into well thinned earth tone latex paint. There is actually three shades of green, mixed together. Between the fluorescent lights and the point-n-shoot camera’s auto white balance the green is a little off in the photos.

I started by taking a good set of color photos of the prototype which still stands in Lisbon. A local rail fan group just finished rehabbing it, and it looks better than new right now. From the photos I drew HO gauge pla

I love large stations but mine is at a sawmill located along the Klamath Falls branch of the SP. The prototype is the SP station at Kirk. It is scratch built based on a drawing I made using the dimensions of a person in a photograph standing in front of the station.

Nice stations everyone. Here’s mine.

Silver Plume, CO, scratchbuilt in “O” scale.

My hat’s off to those of you who scratchbuilt your models! Mine unfortunately is not, but it’s an exact replica of the B&O depot at Sykesville, MD. The kit had been long out of production when I stumbled on it at a train show.

Nice stations, everyone! This is my NYC Freight depot (Alexander Scale Model) that I built a few years back and detailed with sliding wood doors and interior/exterior lighting:

This is the beautiful Victoria-style T&OC station in Bucyrus, OH (ca. 2008) that is being lovingly refurbished:

This is Denver Union Station.

The depot at North Junction, a not quite finished scene on my Western Maryland layout. It’s a simple Life Like kit that vaguely captures the flavor of a standard WM design, especially with a little paint.

Oh come on, I like this thread! Anyone else care to share?

OK, now I am digging deep to my previous non-landscaped layout with a small country station that has now been relegated to a storage shelf near the layout. But, hey, it is a passenger station and I did build it.

Three stations

East Bend (platform view)

Great stuff…Here’s a model of a little gem, the flag stop at Hawks Nest, WV

Its a kit bash from a COHS product offering to include the 10 x 10 ‘shed’ that was added to the standard C&O flag stop and is based upon drawings and photos (that includes the weathering too!)

Eagle River Station

Amtrak station going into new sectiion of layout

Good to see a neat modern station for a while!

Matt

too bad their out of production

Tom,Where on earth did you find that beautiful T&OC station? Wasn’t in Bucyrus was it? [;)][:-^]

I was going to post a photo of my favorite station but, yours will do the job.

I 'll post a dated picture of the milk station. If anybody would like to see the finish area let me know.
