If I may I would like to post pictures of various locomotives and rolling stock I have seen on my travels
On a visit to see the new locks on the Panama Canal the opportunity to ride on the Panama Canal Railroad arose.
Panama Canal Railroad Company
What are they using for mules at the locks now?
The mules are on the original Panamax locks.
The new locks (for larger ships than Panamax size) are ordinary locks. No need for mules.
Pictures of a ship in the new Aqua Clara lock are in my shipping photographs, not for show on this thread
As I was there in 1968 on 18 month vacation for USAF. I saw the mules pull the USS Missouri through, on it’s way to Southeast Asia.
I also befriended a fellow ham operator who just so happened to be an engineer on THE OLD RR there. I was able to ride w/him on a RT across the Isthmus.
Now days the RR is Totally upgraded to handle the IM traffic. I wonder now if the quicker enlarged canal has ruined the RR transfer of IM? ANYONE monitor that dynamic? Please advise, thanks.
PS can’t resist this TRUE story. For those unfamiliar with Panama WATER transit. A DISPATCHER has to decide who goes through the locks and in what order. We were cruising and had to transit the Canal. Dispatcher GOOFED. We were ready to leave the area of Panama, having passed all the locks. Problem: Our ship was floating at that moment at ocean high tide. We blocked ALL Canal traffic until low tide occured. Had we tried to advance, the Bridge of Americas would have sheared off the top of our ship. Pretty Big mistake of dispatch. High and low tide is VERY predictable. i.e. Like long trains not fitting on a siding…BUT in this case a “saw-by” was not possible. LOL endmrw1021251227
Was that in the days of the RS Alcos?
Whenever we visited Dubai we travelled everywhere by taxi.
I day I decided to travel on the train.

Way back in the early 1960s I visited the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway in what is now Cumbria.. Many visits later I still have an affection for the 15 inch gauge railway.
My last visit, Dawn came along with me.
‘Northern Rock’ at Ravenglass
‘Douglas Ferreira’ at Ravenglass
‘River Mite’ at Irton Road.
‘Northern Rock’ on the turntable at Dalegarth
Ground Frame at Irton Road
When I was in Villefranche-sur-Mer in France, after photographing ships (my main hobby), I made a quick visit to the railway station.
The tunnel entrance looks ornate imo.
What is a “ground frame”?
Hand lever frame to control signal and turnout. Train guard moves the levers to allow a train through the pointwork. He then boards the train and continues the journey.
Thanks, NorthBrit. As always, I’m fascinated by your posts.
Thank you, Paul for your kind post. Glad you like them. Railroading, model and 1-1, is a pleasant sideline to my main hobbies.

Off course staying at the same station there are the service trains
The scenery was my main interest on being at Corrour Station
On one of our journeys we visited Palma, Majorca. There we travelled on the Palma , Soller Wooden Train.
The train arriving at Palma.
The train at Soller.
Outside the railway station is a tram station
I had to look that one up!
It looks to me like the rail has the standard profile rather than the reduced height of many narrow gauge lines
Hello Penny. The railway was originally 2ft 11 and half inches gauge . Altered later to 15 inches gauge.
