Many family members have been in the service from WWII to current conflict, Dad’s oldest brother died fighting the japanese and we have the 48 star flag from his casket, My dad was not healthy enough for the Korean war but the rest of his brothers(3 of them) were in the service at that time they all died long after leaving the service. Have numerous cousins in the Navy and Air force.

Having grown up in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, one of several towns that claim to be the “Birthplace of Memorial Day”, and having served my country in wartime, Lincoln’s words have always had a special significance for me. I cannot read them, even after perhaps 1000 readings, without getting choked up.
I humbly salute my fellow veterans, especially those of you – Phil, Ron, Rick, and others whose names I don’t know – who gave the last full measure of their devotion.
