Model railroad video: Building the HO scale Virginian Ry. part 13

WHAT TYPE OF PAINT DID YOU USE ON THE ROCKS AND WHAT COLOR?

I priced the track for the Virginian an, from Walthers it came to $810.00. That was because the some turnout were $45.00 and $50.00 each. I guess I’ll try something cheaper.

Excuse me if this question is in the wrong Video. I am currently building this as my first layout in over 30 years. As I lay out the trackplan I notice a difference between the radius gap between the 22" radius and the edge of the base at the Owl creek end between the Video’s, the visuals on the track plan and the realities of math.
The track plan says to set your radius start point at 24" from the edge of the base. A 22" radius will give you 2" from the centerline to the edge of the base. With the width of the track and the cork, the track will appear to be about 1" from the edge. All Video’s show that the track edge is 2 1/2 to 3 inches from the base edge. This is rather important to setting the riser for the 18" radius and also the tunnel. Either my math is warped or David realised this and set the radius start for the 22" radius track about 26" ,but it is not reflected in the track plan . Has anyone building this solved this problem.

Look around and you will find less expensive turnouts. I guess, since |Walther’s is sponsoring this layout, the wanted to feature their best (and more expensive) products.

What an absolutely wonderful episode. But it raised the question in my mind of what must a job interview with Kalmach / MRR be like? Proving yourself an exemplary writer and an accomplished modeler? Whew

As always I have learned something that has eluded me for years. The Poly trees. Thanks.

MR,
As the April issue did not show all details about the scenery products used, can we please have some further details on the use and application of for example the static grass, ground foam used, what areas the cinders were used, a bit more on how you colored the rocks, etc, etc…thanks

Great Video. Enjoyed seeing everyone doing the different projects and seeing how they are actually doing them.

Very interesting and well-produced video! I enjoyed it.

Reminds me of my home. I live in Kansas now but grew-up in Beckley, WV and relatives working/living in Layland, Kaymore, Sandstone, Hinton, and the area. Thank you as I get homesick everyonce in a while and this has helped.

Best video yet, are all of your buildings on the layout kits & kit bashed?

Always enjoy these videos. Keep 'em coming

Thanks for showing how you make the trees i leard something once again .Cant wait to see more of this prudject. Is this going to be opproraited DCC? THANKS for great job.

WO’W—wat a job-- playn with the trains and gettn paid for it —talk bout being in heaven

Great job guys!!

It seems like the Bay Junction video series had more projects going on at once. After all this is a 4x8 so maybe not a whole lot of multi-staffed projects. Anyway this is very good and informative. I only have a 4x4 and I might have enough room for a 4x8 so this is very good. On time also, every week a new installment.

Thanks,
Alexander

The layout looks very good the company house looks all most
like my uncles except his was green he worked for the Island
Creek Coal Co. In Holden WVA.

Enjoying every video and looking forward to next month. Each video shows me something that I need to do…Great job.

Preparing a monthly magazine must have stress levels but the MR staff certainly make the positions look like fun.
Well Done!!

I like the concept of the Virginian but I really want to model steam era. What would I need to change to do so? I am learning quit a lot from this series. Thanks for all the great tips.
