…there was a thread on this a while back, apparently it’s some sort of tradition.

I think I saw something about this a few years back. The track is beside a bar and if you moon Amtrak you get a free drink.
…I didn’t catch all of the reason for it but you are correct, they all collect together at a local bar and then are transported to the Amrtak tracks near by via a bus…I didn’t catch how often they do this but they all lined up in the bar over the pool table to have a “letter” painted on their butt and then it all happens as they line up at a fence along side the tracks…The trains that pass are going rather slow and are pretty close to the fence. The one employee that seemed to be the leader was a fellow that’s on the American Hot Rod show as a body {cars}, fabricator…It’s a wild bunch…!

Yes, it is apparently a yearly occurence in LaGuana Nigel (Orange County) California. I heard it talked about on the Internet Railroad Talk show, Lets Talk Trains. They did there show live there last year.
Here is a link to the “Mooning Amtrak” webpage. It appears to actually be a fundraiser (or should it be "pants dropper) of sorts. It also sounds like the local police are present with no objections, unless someone gets out of hand.

Once in Weber Canyon outside of Ogden, Utah, when Amtrak took the UP to Denver, my dad and I was amused with a deliberate headlight show from one of the Amtrak roomettes!
Just looked at NJMikes link to the people mooning Amtrak in California. The people who backed up and made contact with the chain link fence appear to have a terminal case of cellulite. Are these people candidates for buttosuction?
