NCE Pro power cab

Looks complete with the exception of the power pack. ?

The power supply is that smaller box. The booster is part of the bigger box, I.e., the command station.

I’m kinda sold I think it’s a no brainer to this point. Fortunately the locos I’ve bought thus far are DCC ready. At this point in life. I think getting the best you can is a good thing. And having an understanding wife helps also. Wanted to start a new thread to stay on track …lol…thanks for your help brother !

DCC Ready usually means that out of the box the locomotive will run on DC power.

To convert the locomotive to DCC, you will need to add a decoder. The setup under the shell will dictate how you install the decoder. If you want to provide a list of your DCC Ready locomotives, we can help you choose the proper decoder.

Just to be clear, it’s not an NCE Pro power cab, it’s an NCE Power Pro system with a Pro Cab throttle. There is no Pro Power Cab, but there is a Power Cab, which is a starter system built in to a throttle that looks like a Pro Cab and can be used as a Pro Cab on other systems. I point this out because if you have questions latter it’s important to get the terminology correct to get the correct answers.

i started with a PowerCab which iis a controller, command-station and booster in one unit. I continue to find it handy to use with alligator clip to program locos on a bench or devices on the club layout.

after finally getting started on my layout, i wired it to some track, but immediately needed to add other plug-ins, UTPs, to use it at different locations on the layout.

I also added a bulb to limit current. While the PowerCan shuts down when there’s a short, it takes a while to boot back up. Power is restored immediately using a bulb when the short is cleared.

you might also want to use bulbs or purchase some circuit breakers to limit current when shorts inevitable occur.

I have that system and it works great! I now use my PowerCab for a test track on the bench. You can add a WifiTrax WIFI module to also have WIFI and it connects on your cab bus. It works very well with the TCS throttles and cell phones.

I’m weighing the consequences $$ of both layout platforms DCC and DC. I’m old school at heart and the idea of running DC layout with power blocks is intriguing. The idea of running individual block area for power…maybe running inline meters to watch track power sounds kinda fun.

Why you little waffler you!

Just trying to figure the best approach…I’ve dealt with alot of DC electronics in my time also DC electrical. Pretty sure at one point they will wire this little locos to set a code and literally a check “engine” light and will need to figure that out. I figured I need to run a tight track either way so the option can exist. Still have that book coming on DCC electrical…to be continued. BTY I like waffles.

LOL, so do I.

I wanna encourage you to go DCC.

I got that book coming and hopefully we will get on the same page. I didn’t get where I am being shy of tech. It only makes you better. G.
