New Coors train

If I owned a tavern/bar/saloon, I’d run that sucker every hour on the hour!

Gives a new meaning to “HIGH BALL”!

It really was a show stopper at the MTH display at YORK. Didn’t hear anything but OOOOO’s and AHHHH’s.

Now if there’s too much of a good thing in 3-rail, it’s gotta be all the DISNEY stuff.[2c]

“Grain Belt Premium” – Love it! Love it!

“I guess that’s exactly my fear. That Lionel and MTH will overdo it and turn the hobby into a version of NASCAR. You know, with every square inch of the sides of trains plastered with mini stickers and logos. Here comes the Home Depot express.”

I know what you mean. Personally, I think this would be a nice thing. I have kids who just love watching the Dale Jr. train though as we’ve seen reviewed in CTT, it is a pretty ‘cheap’ set. I can’t wait to see the Coors train run atop the bar at one of my local watering holes

In the CTT review of the Coors train in the latest issue, the only “cons” listed were “Bud and Miller drinkers, as well as hi-railers looking for realism, may not like it.”

Some actual purchasers have found that, due to the train’s wider than normal measurements, it was taking out some bridges, tunnel portals, and other close-to-track scenics on their layouts.

In the same issue, on page 59, one of the “layout tips” was to insure that your trains were clearing all obstacles. Joe

That is a very valid point - but since I didn’t sideswipe anything (even passing trains on curves) when I was running it at home or at work – I didn’t view it as a con.

Feel free to add a comment with your experiences with the train to the review posted on line.

Bob,

Did you have any difficult pulling the beer loads out of the reefers? Some of mine were tight. I bought the set and two extra cars after reading and watching your reviews, and I am very impressed. One thing I noticed about the loco is that the two laddders at the rear aren’t glued on and they can fall off. Loved the review and videos, definitely sold me on the set.

After removing the screw on the bottom of each car, they came out fine - except I’d occasionally pull the pallet out at a slight angle, and the corner would snag the doorframe.

I dislocated one of the ladders when I was re-installing the shell after a photo but was able to “push” it back in place.

I post the other day that I saw it run at Miss Edna’s the other Saturday. Impressive. Not my cup of beer, AH, I mean tea. For those who like that type of thing, I highly recommend it. Smoked well, sounded like an MTH [censored] and the vapor [smoke] flooded out when the door opened to the cars. Some smart work.

Bob,

Thanks for the reply. I got real scared when I accidentally knocked off the ladder. I was glad that it just pressed back into place. The set is definitely worth the money. It runs great and looks great.

How much Coor’s light do you get with this train? I hope a minimum of a 12 pack? [:D]

Does anybody else have a problem with this loco derailing when trying to back thru a switch?

The NFL and Coors will be until 2010. The newest with Coors(new contract), is this year 2008, with NASCAR.

Budweiser has been the official beer of Nascar since 1999, but starting with the 2008 racing season, that title will shift to Coors Light. In a deal estimated at $25 million, Molson Coors (NYSE: TAP) became the newest beer sponsor of Nascar.

I read that the train on TV just might change to a race car for the NASCAR races.

njalb1, howdy Al.

I hope they make an OLD MILWAUKEE TRAIN?

Seems to me that an Iron City Beer train would be more appropriate…[swg]

I actually saw this running at a local now-smoke-free watering hole. It was a source of much mirth and fascination. It was much larger than I supposed -

Just to chime in a bit.

A club member brought his down to try it on the layout and try out operating with a TPC. Most of the visitors got quite a chuckle out of it, especially the cargo door operation.

The only drawbacks :

Of the four main lines it could only run on one due to not only the width but also the big wheels(?) would hangup on switch motors and some of the manual switch stands.

My other con is the sound level is good for a home layout but where you have other locos and accessories operating at the same time it is, at best, very difficult to hear.

[:o)]

Way to go MTH. Thats exactly what I want to see in the hobby. Hey lets take the kids to hobby shop and show them the new beer train!
