I have heard there are “new” LED lights that can can be screwed into regular sockets without any further work. Is this true? If so , where do you buy them?

I think they have what you’re looking for.
I usually get them at my local train shows, $2-3 per piece in both the small (switch-sized) and large (headlight- or accessory-sized) versions, and in multiple colors. I suspect a good hobby shop would have them too.
Those that I’ve bought on ebay or amazon and shipped from China tend to be elongated and don’t screw all the way into standard sockets, so I’d avoid those.
I think that’s it. They look good and I want to try them.
We don’t really have any train stores, so internet buying is the only option. However we do have an O Gauge Train Museum at the Hawaiian Railway main yard in Ewa Mill. Visit, if you come to Hawaii.

I’ve tried the LED replacement bulbs, and didn’t like them in my LIONEL switches. Just weren’t bright enough, to me.
You know, I’ve never seen an O-gauge layout with an active volcano on same. Does yours have one…?
Depending on where Tom lives in Hawaii that’s probably the LAST thing he wants!
Agreed. Think about how many times he’d have to replace the track every time that thing erupted!
