Anyone on the forum see the recent Norfolk Southern commercial featuring the toy train layout? It is pretty elaborate and well done. I am curious if anyone knows what trains are featured; it appears to be O scale, and 2 rail.

I looked at it a couple of times and even paused the very beginning and I think its HO as you have to consider the kid is small and my larger hand would cover my GP-9’s about the same his is covering that.
Never mind the train set, anyone see the railroad stickers on that chest? You can tell NS is really trying to go back to it’s roots right now.
It’s an HO set, there’s no third rail, but I won’t hold that against them. What an utterly charming commercial! Now I have to figure out how to work in a brontosaurus on my layout!

It would not suprise me if the train set was a prop made from O gauge train Shells on 2 rail track…or even if it was all computer generated special effects…I do miss seeing Blue Conrail locos arround here its what I grew up with, the workers were always friendly…NS will chase off anyone just trying to watch the Allentown PA yard from even a distance, I’m not sure if its from “train chasing nuts” with cameras & radios tresspassing or just the post 9/11 high security world we live in now. I just miss seeing the action. If I want photos I can search on-line, no need for me to tresspass.
I cant wait to start seeing the NS heritage paint jobs arround here I live right by the main lines of the former CNJ, LehighValley and Reading…I work near the Allentown Yard, travel past the Bethlehem Yard and live near the North bound tracks by Catasauqua.
I’m hoping at least some of the heritage units make it near hear.
I’m seeing quite a few Canadian National Engines hauling scrap metal in gondolas north bound from here lately. 2 Months ago I saw 3 Union Pacific Locos with a bunch of car haulers awhile back, Its very rare to see any foreign roads in this area, The UP train made me stop my car to watch, I’m assuming it was from a west coast port city delivering autos headed to NYC.
I also just saw a NS Engine with the Horse logos “grafittied” into a “Zebra” I laughed like crazy at that, wish i had a photo of it.

It looks like an Atlas O GP60, MTH Coal Gondolas, MTH Covered Coil Cars in the train, all on 2 Rail O Scale Track.
If you think it is HO Scale, you have not held an HO scale model lately.

Look closely in the foreground and the background in the Making of Video for the commerical. The NS diesel has to be an Atlas O GP60 for 2-Rail O scale.
The Coal Gondolas are either Lionel or MTH. For 2-Rail the MTH Coal Gondolas would be easier to convert. The coal gondolas have to be compared with ones on hand.

Thanks to all who shared their thoughts and observations about the Norfolk Southern toy train commercial, including the links to the video on You Tube and the behind the scenes video.
A few of you noticed little details like the stickers on the toy box. Watching this over and over I noticed one as well: The animated lion that cuts the ribbon looked kind of familiar (if it is a lion) and to me it looks a lot like Richard Branson. So I Googled to see if there is a connection. Sure enough Virgin Health Miles is affiliated with Norfolk Southern, and I think the creators of this splendid CGI commercial worked a little animated Branson character into the commercial with everything else;
or call me crazy.
