NYC - PRR Parallel Mainlines in Chicago

Always good to have n012944’s view.

Any idea of how much switching B&OCT does in the Chicago region? Is it a significant amount? Dont expect exact numbers.

Thanks for your input.

Too many think of Chicago being only the biggest interchange location among the rail carriers in the USA. In addition to that Chicago is also a big industrial area and terminates and originates a high volume of traffic. Many when they think of Chicago do not understand the Chicago area proper volume of traffic.

It wasn’t even Erie’s decsion to make. They were owned at the time by Dereco, an independent subsidiary of N&W. N&W had also owned a bunch of PRR stock prior to the PC merger, and look how well that turned out. I think they decided to cut their loses with NE railroads.
