Means bring your own glass. Since the members of this group are well-travelled I thought I might pass this along as a public service – kind of a heads-up.
…Scary. There are several cautions to take in using hotel / motel rooms…Carry a small spray can of Lysol to take care of telephone, TV control, door knobs and mabe a few other areas. Be careful with the bedspread too.
Personally, I’d not use the glasses as depicted in the video. I’d use only the one time use kind, plastic ones that are sealed in plastic covers.
We use a Hampton Inn when going back to our home area and that’s what’s avail in their rooms…{The sealed plastic glasses}.
WOW, I travel quite a bit including hotels on a regular basis. I am not so paranoid that I carry Lysol spray or anything like that, but the “glass thing” is truly ridiculous. I may begin carrying a plastic glass with me in my luggage from now on.
…Well Jim, you can call it paranoid, we believe it’s good sense.
No offense intended to be sure. I also use Hampton Inn’s almost all of the time when I have a choice. I trust I did not offend you with the “paranoid” reference, that was surely not my intention. My Dad often told me “everyone has to eat a pound of dirt in their lifetime” and I guess I took that literally.
…Appreciate that Jim…It’s forgotten.
My brother nearly died last year from legionaire’s disease and because he travels alot maybe we’ll never know what that came from. Air conditioning cooling tanks putting water back into the drinking water? There’s a lot of literature on this but he was in a coma for nine days and I hope I don’t have to go there myself.
…When you think about it, the potential for all kinds of stuff is there…All kinds of people use the same rooms.
I hardly ever stay in hotels, if its only for 1 night ill just sleep in my car for a few hours at a rest area or whatever
My fiancee is an Executive Housekeeper at a hotel. When she got her job a 3 years ago she discovered one of her staff was using whatever cleaning solution was around (sometimes even Febreeze!) to clean rooms. The hotel terminated that person’s job and did a ‘How to clean’ training seminar over a weekend. Since then her hotel has scored in the top 3 cleanest hotels within the chain that operates it. They’re inspected quarterly in surprise fashion. When we have stayed at other places she knows what to look for. To be safe, just use disposable cups/cutlery that you purchase and keep some Clorox wipes to disinfect surfaces while you’re there. By spending the extra $13 on those supplies you’ll be safer.
