My brother is here from Texas - surprised Mom which was very cool
After work, picked up Jenni and headed to the 30th Anniversary of Silence of the Lambs. Not my cup 'o tea, but it was enjoyable.
Dinner after at Taco Bell, then was home by 1130
70s later today 52 now.
EARLY morning tomorrow, I expect to get outta here at 530ish to miss the Philly traffic - ETA York 830-9 or so. Gotta remember to take my membership cards (TCA and LCCA).
No Jenni on this trip, work time, unfortunately.
Hope to meet up with some of youse giz.
Will visit my friend and President tonight, some food shopping and then bed. We’ll see how THAT goes…
I don’t know about the rest of the country, but here in Virginia the “Real ID” amounted to an enhanced drivers license. The problem was they shut down most of the DMV offices last year do to COVID and took forever to open them up again. Things were messed up for a while to say the least.
I’m not in any rush to get the “Real ID,” I ain’t goin’ anywhere for a while that I can’t drive to, which I’d prefer anyway. Flying’s not as fun as it used to be.
Wasen’t the real ID to be required to fly starting about now? I haven’t heard any more about it.
WASHINGTON – Today, April 27, 2021, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is extending the REAL ID full enforcement date by 19 months, from October 1, 2021 to May 3, 2023, due to circumstances resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.Apr 27, 2021
My shooting buddy who died and I used to go to a popular gun show in Orange County fairgrounds. Our govenor and his party passed a law no more gun shows there. It brought in a million a year for the fairgrounds. There are almost no gun shows anymore in gun hateing Calif.
Still down in VA. Feeling pretty low right now, don’t want to be here. Called the mechanic earlier, could be another week or two depending upon whether they can find the part for the car. So I could miss Halloween. And that sucks.
Wish I could join you guys at York. One of these days I hope to make it there.
Got hamburgers on the menu tonight for Tyler and I. I’ll do the bacon, he’ll do the onions. I suspect I’ll end up grilling, I’m okay with that.
Ya know, 2nd time in a row I forgot to bring some scotch with me. I might pick up a bottle this weekend. I wonder what the prices are like down here. Need to track down an ABC store since they sell beer and wine just about every place else. I do think selling it in daycare centers is a little over the top though.
I’m in a bit of a malaise with work - really missing having my colleague to talk to. Feels kind of empty. Plus I’ve got more piled on my plate. Very difficult to focus.
Mornin’ guys and gal(s). Cloudy and 57 in the Potomac Highlands, where Maryland’s three western counties are in talks to join WV. Annapolis ain’t gonna let that happen…
Been on the train just about every day, but it hasn’t whooped me yet. Fall colors still haven’t peaked here.
Purchased some blue and black bulbs for the train room, for some upcoming night train fun.
You shouldn’t have too much trouble finding an ABC store out in the “Peoples Republic of Charlottesville” area. The sophisticates and “Parlor Socialists” that inhabit the UVA environs do like their adult beverages as much as anyone else.
Prices? Not as cheap as NJ but not too bad. You may not find the variety you’d get at “Bottle King” or Shop-Rite Liquors.
Rained very lightly this morning, not expected, sun is out now.
I’v been watching youtube vidos by RBP Trains a guy with a nice Fasttrack layout and a lot of vidos. He does a good job better than most. He has a lot of trains, many expensive late model trains. So many that I wonder if possible Lionel and MTH gives hin trains to run as he has made a name for himself and he is terrific advertizing for them?
I did most of my buying years ago so mostly pre middle 90’s but big volume. I now wish I had less volume and more late model stuff.
Slept very late today - Tyler and I went to bed pretty late. We also ate quite late, because he came back from school and crashed until some time after 9 PM. I said slept late, I meant went back to bed and slept late. Had to get up at 6:20 to fix a file for those sch-muck clients of ours up in Canada. They asked us to change something, which broke another process of theirs, and they have no idea when they’ll change that other process to incorporate the change they asked for. Brilliant! I’ve got a coding fix I hope to have done Monday or Tuesday to take care of this, but since two weeks ago a colleague and I have been splitting days where we have to get up and fix that file. What a PITA.
Not much on the docket for today. Just kind of recuperating from the prior week.
I’m really bummed about this whole car situation down here. If this is going to drag on for another couple of weeks, I may try to come up with some way I can get up to NJ for the week of Halloween. It would really suck to miss it.
Sometimes it’s tough thinking of stuff to say!
I was at the trolley museum again this weekend. It was an odd day- chilly, but otherwise lovely fall weather, the leaves are looking lovely but we had pretty poor ridership. I was present all day and we had nobody for the first hour or two… and again, nobody, for the last hour or so. Really dissapointing we didn’t get more visitors since the foliage peak should be around now if not soon.
I was able to buy another toy train today- a Lionel 6-18405 Santa Fe Burro Crane. Was with a collection that got donated to the museum a couple years ago which we’ve gradually been selling off. I gave away a heap of rusty O27 track I didn’t want anything to do with. They were happy to recieve it, and I’m happy to have gotten rid of some clutter I wasn’t doing anything with. I struggle to part with things, but I’m glad I could persuade myself to let this stuff go. Hopefully it gets some use.
Me too, but you know what? The more you do the easier it gets, especially if you can make a little money and get the stuff you really are looking for.
For example, at our spring show I sold a Conrail switcher and caboose combo that I had no idea why I bought it in the first place. Took the money and bought a Dreyfuss Hudson at the same show! I’ve wanted that for years!
(Had to do a little work on the Dreyfuss to bring it up to snuff, but that’s another story.)
Trying to figure out what to do. Went and visited the mechanic yesterday, he hadn’t even gotten to the car yet. Was planning on starting either yesterday or today, so I have no idea of the extent he’ll have to go to. So at least a week, maybe two or more. And I’ve got Halloween coming up this weekend and another Rutgers home game the following Saturday (11/6). I don’t know what to do, as I would like to be up in NJ for both of them. No way I can see the car being ready for this weekend, and I think it’s highly doubtful for the following weekend. Every alternative I consider costs money and time.
Major storms blew through here last night between 6 and 9. Lots of thunder, most I’ve heard in quite a while. Looks like NJ got it later on, and from what I can tell northern jersey is still getting it.
Cooled down a lot after those storms. Which is good, yesterday was in the mid 70’s. I like fall weather, it’s my favorite season.
Evenin’ guys and gal(s). Blustery in the Potomac Highlands. Production company on the train today, so I tried to look super spiffy. Even trimmed my nose hairs.[8D]
Tried out the blue and black bulbs in the train room, and they look fabulous!!! (Snap. Snap. Snap.) Spent the rest of evening shooting night video.
Slowly trying to go thru what I have and downsize some also.
I’m trying to get some organization going as I try to downsize some. ( please do not think of this as a way to sell this is just what I have come across in the past 3 weeks)
This is how crazy my collection has gotten, I sold a 140W prewar passenger set with a 224E and 2224W tender the other day but it had 3 coaches no Observation car, I have another listing with 2 coaches and an observation car, I just found another in one of my boxes I’m trying to empty into the 27GL tubs.
I have items I do not even remember having, I guess old age is catching up to me lol.
Rain blew through Monday night. Yesterday, we had rain and not much wind - wind today, which, as usual, will play havoc with the Halloween decorations…
Met up with my best friend on Friday, he’s in on being my Best Man and already helped me with the wedding party. I’ll be calling him soon to help me with more stuff.
A little progress on the Super Bee, Monday. It runs better and better.
Spank - I thought Tyler would be home for Turkey day - Hope you get back in time!
Yesterday, I FINALLY get a day to myself and I was up in the Train Attic.
Got some work done on the layout, the station area has snow and sidewalks, will need to wire up the street lights and mark out the curbing. Then I can go back to the other side of
