Personal Licence Plate's (RR or Anything)

I was just woundering do any of you have a Licence Plate that is RR related or anything else?

I used to have one on my truck that said " SD TROLY" for San Diego Trolley. But one day while I was at work, my truck went to Mexico without me.The police never found it[:(!].

I don’t have one, but here in PA they offer several “special fund” license plates…they cost more than a standard plate and the excess money goes into a fund for a particular charity or cause. This is the one for the PA Historical & Museum Commission (if the image works):

I actually don’t think they should offer stuff like this because I think the main purpose of a license plate is to clearly identify the car and what state it came from, and when every state has 10 different plates that’s much harder. But it does look nice.

I am always amazed by the personalised plates and their relatively cryptic messages. But about ten years ago the state of New South Wales, which until then had offered plates with three letters/three numbers (AAA000) started offering plates with three letters / two numbers / letter (AAA00A). This was about the time that Australian National took over supplying power for the “Indian Pacific” in NSW. They were using recently rebuilt locomotives with EMD noses but power equipment from an SD40 known as class CLP. These units were numbered from 8 to 17 and had a computer check letter following it. So a locomotive number would be “CLP 14 Y” or something similar (I can’t calculate the right check digit right now). Almost immediately all the available “correct” CLP registration plates were taken! The plates are still seen today on railfan cars, although the locomotives long ago lost the check digits, and are now being renumbered 3008 to 3016 (CLP15 was wrecked some years ago). The government are now offering plates in the form AA00AA, but I can’t think of anything that uses that form of numbering.

[:D] That’s a good story.

I have a bumper sticker that says “Railroaders do it Day and Night”
–But I haven’t put it on my car. [:)]

Ontario has personalized plates but there is not much left in the railfanning category. All the popular combinations have been used up. Also their now quite expensive, (over $200) . I have a picture of a Vermont Volkswagon with VIARAIL as his personal plate.

I think a cool licence plate would be"AC4400" and then have some UP stickers or something on the car so that other railfans dont look at it and say “ohh wut a coincidence” that way they know your a railfan

In IL my plate said UP 4022, CA SP 9 and know in VA DOMLINR.

One plate I saw on a car on the automobile carrier on “The Ghan” was K5054. This was the Royal Air Force serial number of the first prototype Supermarine Spitfire fighter aircraft. Given that standard plates were of the AAA000 format, it couldn’t have been an accident, but was as subtle as any such plate I’ve ever seen.

One of my cars was registered YMC 363. YMC was the identifying code of a high speed freight car truck and 363 was the number of a well known steam (suburban) locomotive. Some of my friends knew about the truck design, but the locomotive number meant nothing to anyone but me.

At the big TCA meet in York I usually take a break around lunch time to walk the parking lot and recalabrate the eyeballs. I keep an eye peeled for vanity plates concerning trains. For the strictly train related I’ve seen the following:
GG1
PRR K4S
PRR M1
PRR M1a
NKP
Caboose
RR Trax
Gondola
Alco 3
Boxxcar
Blu Cmt
Trains
Trn Nut
and
Train

If you add in things related to toy and model trains the list really gets long
TINPL8
Lionel - in a number of different spellings
Marklin
O Gauge
TOYRRNUT
AM Flyr
A Flyer
TCA
HO
Toy RR
Marx
LGB
Bing

I have a Placard that was made for me by our principal Mr Beindorf while i was in jr high school. still have it on the door to the train room.

Here’s a cool license plate maker- http://www.acme.com/licensemaker/

The plates on my car read IHB 2920. They caught the attention of a CSX engineer who was out railfanning near Barr Yard on his off-duty time while I was doing the same.

I have an “L&N” plate on the front of my Blazer. I don’t waste my money to get the personalized plates.

Now for some reason in Virginia dang near all the cars I have seen in that state have personalized tags. Must be cheap there.

My dad has the license plate WCS RR…Wisconsin Central System Railroad. It was WCS but no one could figure it out so we had them add the RR onto it. We have had a few thumbs up from WC employees back in the WC days but nothing since CN.

I have to go and get my new plates this week. I am hoping to get 4 - 3985 or 4 - X844
Gotta have the 4 It denotes the county. Here we can choose a number if it hasnt been taken already, it does cost extra for personalized ones.

Miniwyo, if you can’t get those you could try for 4-6-6-4.

Once i wanted the PA RR plate and even a vainity plate, but one thing about them, PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER YOU when you dont want them too…

If you want to see bunches of personalized plates just take a trip to California. Seems like every third car has one. Not much of a surprise in that, I guess.

The best railroad related one that I’ve personally seen ( that I remember ) was in the San Francisco area. It read: SP 2472 W. For those that don’t know, the 2472 is a Pacific type that occasionally runs in that area, so I presume that plate must belong to someone connected with it.

Gee, even California gets it right sometimes!

That was the one thing stopping me from getting peronalized plates, I thought it sure would be cool to have my nickname on the pate, then I thought about all the people that I have accidentally cut off over the years…

To easy to remember me, and then report it. [:p]
