An insurance adjuster told me once that cars with personalised plates get stolen at a far lower rate than cars with regular plates. The car sticks out in a crowd and car thiefs do not like to stick out.
Wow alot of you have a lot in common,Lot’s of good ideas.
Like they say if you like something…show it!
There is no harm in showing your liking in something.
I like all the rosponces from all of you.
The question is,How does a RR feel when they see their name on your Licence Plate?
If you want to get your own Personal Plate,Do it! Just take a look around. I guarantee Your own Plate in no worse. LOL,I have seen some realy weard non-Railroad Plates poping up lately. Id be very happy.
…Mine aren’t really Vanity plates but my pickup has a 2 digit number…very rare in Indiana and our auto has a one digit plate…both extra cost options. My pickup I wanted “SS” for it’s model but was taken so settled for it’s model year…
A rail oriented plate with the correct circumstances would be fine…
Ifish, I have though about 4664 and 4884 and will try to get at least one of the numbers when I go later today.
The reason why i am getting a rail related number is that to anyone that isnt thinking or doesn’t know what it means, so it seems like just any old number.
All of these sound real good. Here in North Carolina the additional amount for “customized plates” is $ 15. Bob is right about the effect on the security of the automobile, my casualty person says the same thing. I was successfull in getting a railroad related license plate here in North Carolina. When I’m traveling and railroad folks pass my Ranger they take a really good look at me to see if they know who it is. The original was a radio handle that I had as a young man working for Georgia Power. My plate is -----------------FR8TRAIN-----------------------
On patrol, I routinely look at plates and haven’t seen any train fans or rail related plates in my own patch of paradise.
Personalized plates are fun to call out to dispatchers with a heavy Southern drawl. The spelling- which gets called out in a phonetic alphabet- is a lot of fun when you know the dispatcher is busy with her coffee, the morning meeting with the Sheriff, and a ringing phone reporting yet more UFO’s landing around the Army drop zone in my county.
As a cop I do pay more attention to personalized plates. What really draws my attention, however, are the license plate frames that obstruct registration tags. An outdated registration is ALWAYS a source of income for my pore lil ole patch of Suthin’ heaven.
Gee, my truck is coming up for renewal… wonder if EMD E8 is still out there?
Pennsylvania is the only state I know of that offers a train on a plate. Although it is difficult to see as a train, it is a cool picture and better than the standard plate issued.
We only have 4 charachter liscence plates here there are 2 charachers that are on all liscence plates, The county number (for me it is 4) 1 - 23 then the famous Wyoming cowboy(Which Texas wold love to get thier hands on) and then the 4 numbers that are individual to each pair of plates.
i need to get off my butt and get my personalized plates. i want to use ESPEE, but it is most likely already taken. maybe no one has SOUPAC yet. if that is gone, i am gonna use SD40T2
Go to any rail fest and you’ll see plenty of these. You might see them while out exploring too. Some years back I saw a pickup with “Mo Pac” plates near ATSF/BNSF Watson Yard (Carson, CA).
