Ok, Need to upload an image, so I created a Photobucket Account.Is it always so excrutiatingly slow? With Photobucket open, my entire computer is bogged down. Testing to see if Dr. Wayne’s method of using Photobucket works.

Yes, it is. Photobucket used to be clean and light weight, but now it could slow down a super computer.
Yikes! It took forever to load–was interrupted by a popup, which I had to get out of the way for it to continue–and finally painted. Makes me glad I haven’t messed with it yet…

I have a paid subscription to Photobucket and I don’t seem to experience huge delays when uploading to the site, although it can be slow. Sometimes when a photo seems to be taking forever to upload I will just exit the program and then go back in. Invariably the hesitant photo appears in my library when I re-open the website. The cost of the paid subscription is peanuts when compared to the amount of work that would be required to copy everything from Photobucket to another photo hosting site. Once you are using Photobucket you are kind of trapped because if you delete any photos they will disappear from your posts.
Something that I and others have discovered is to avoid using the ‘Upload’ button which appears on the main page. Instead, I go to (or create) a specific library album and upload from there. Seems to work more smoothly, not that I would describe Photobucket as being “smooth” by any means!
Another factor to keep in mind is the size of each individual photo file. My camera creates huge files and I haven’t tried to adjust it so that the default is to create smaller files. (EDIT: I just had a look at my camera settings and it took me all of three seconds to figure out how to reduce the default file size. Why I haven’t done it before now I can’t explain[D)]). Doctorwayne uses a camera that creates considerably smaller files so he has been able to upload literally thousands of photos to Photobucket without getting anywhere close to exceeding his allowed capacity. I believe he does have a paid subscription but I’m guessing that he chose to do that more to eliminate the nuisance pop-ups than to increase his storage capacity. Maybe Wayne will chime in.

There are a lot of people it seem’s having problems with Photo bucket…which I don’t understand. Namely that it is slow…I for one am glad that I don’t and I also have a large Library. I believe a lot of people are experiencing these problem’s, mainly because they don’t do a periodic cleaning of their caches and all those temporary files are taking up a lot of space on their hard drives, slowing down everything they do. I run My Free CC Cleaner and more every three days…I could go longer, My PC has a large memory. I also run AB which is also Free and NO pop-ups.
When I post a pic’… I just click on IMG, it will turn yellow copied…go back to site…Press Enter…(carriage return) insert img with CTRL V and press enter again (carriage return) url will show…when I press at btm of post, ''Submit Your Reply" url turns into My img…I don’t use any icon at the top or anything and it always works on any site.
I’m running Windows 10, with Chrome Browser.

It just took me 2-3 minutes for the log in to complete. That is not a function of temporary files on my computer or the size of my photos (I’m using 23% of my bucket space) I don’t know if they are victims of denial of service attacks or their servers are inadequate for the job.
The site uses Adobe Flash, which is a known memory hog and is responsible for the messages you get “A script on this page is not working” However slowness in your computer can be a sign of a computer virus. Firefox can all also suck the memory out of your computer, but it seems to have gotten better with the last few updates.
I am still on Windows7 and Photobucket has turned into a sucker, although I clear the cache on my computer as a daily routine and keep the number of open sessions down to a minimum. I run Adblock+ to keep the number of ads and pop-ups to a minimum.
I don´t think that Photobucket is the sole culprit, as even this forum has turned into a slow train. I suspect that Firefox is to blame.
Correct. Sometimes your computer is waiting for a flag or something from the bucket before moving on. It may time out while it is waiting. Maybe the flag bit got lost and needs to be resent. You are not looking at the site in real time while you are uploading.
Uploads are always slower than downloads. This is not an issue of the bucket, but rather of your ISP. Your service is asymetrical. The give you great download speeds, but much slower upload speeds. Many ISPs (especially cable) do not want you to be running a server on their system, and do this intentionally. Mostly it is sold this way so that they can maximise and balance their service.

I wasn’t experiencing particularly slow upload times. It was just the opening, and then once opened, it bogged everything else down. I’m still using Windows Vista and Firefox. Don’t have problems with speed at any other times - just when I’ve got Photobucket open in a browse window.
I use a W10 PC and a Linux PC. Both, maybe ten seconds to login and about twenty seconds to upload a 4.38Mb photo. Not a problem but the site is loaded with Sponsored Ads. I use Charter for isp.

Dave, I have a couple of cameras which produce fairly small photos, and one which makes pretty large ones (although I don’t use it all that much, as I find it very complicated - too many multi-function buttons). Photobucket automatically re-sizes your photos anyway, and I’ve not noticed any difference in the time taken to upload photos, regardless of which camera I’ve used. I do have a photo re-sizer, a Windows “Power Toy”, and it will re-do 300 or 400 photos in a matter of seconds - I do, however, use it mostly with the pictures having the smaller file size, but that’s only for my own files, especially if I want to send photo attachments in e-mails. I never re-size photos before putting them in photobucket.
I’ve also just recently discovered, by accident, that you can batch-upload multiple pictures to photobucket, much the same as you can copy or re-size batches of photos in your computer files. It was much quicker than I expected, too.
I do have a basic paid account at photobucket, but the only reason I got it was because I was running out of “bandwidth”. I didn’t have a clue what that meant when I got messages from photobucket concerning that, but I soon learned that free accounts are allotted an amount of bandwidth, part of which is used every time a photo is viewed. The allotted amount automatically renews each month on the anniversary of your joining photobucket. For some reason, mine began to be used-up within two weeks, with the result that all of my photos w
Sadly I agree and I haven’t found a free replacement yet that works well. Although I may check out train web.
If that is the difference between XP and W10, I know what you mean. W10 is a pain at times.

I had XP for many (10+) years. 2 years ago I jumped over Vista and Windows 7 and went to Windows 8. Whoa! - Whada different animal! As soon as Windows 10 was released 6 months later I signed up for the free upgrade. While I was used to XP and got used to navigating around Windows 8, I’ll take some of the newer features in Windows 10 anytime.
