Can anyone tell me who makes ‘Pullman Brown?’ I’ve gone through the Walther’s Catalogue, but can’t find anything. I’ve got a couple of the Walther’s UPS trucks, but would rather paint them prior to decalling them.
I don’t think there is a “Pullman Brown” paint available - not sure if that’s even a real color, sure you aren’t thinking of “Pullman Green”?? I would say for UPS trucks any dark chocolate brown paint would work, maybe Accuflex (or is it Accupaint?) Illinois Central brown.
I agree with wjstix: You won’t find any by that name. I’d make my own - Floquil Roof Brown + Engine Black to darken it. Overcoat it with Crystal-Cote…
Pullman green is very brown tone…
I don’t know of any “Pullman brown”…
According to UPS, there is such a colour. I just wasn’t sure if my eyes were going on me or in fact there was such a colour in the model world. I guess a chocolate brown will be my next best bet. Thanks
The “Pullman Brown” of which UPS speaks was, according to their website, chosen by one of the founders of the company in 1916.
So, you’d have to research what colors Pullman was using then, not more recently. Also complicating the picture is the fact that Pullman had cars all over the world, painted in a variety of colors. But checking out 1916 would definitely be in order. It’s probably close to a relatively standard color, but may not be known by that name.

The October 2000 MR lists in the table of contents:
Ask Paint Shop: UP wings logo; Pullman Brown
I found it in the magazine index:

I don’t have the issue so I don’t know if that is what you are looking for or not.
As others have said, your best bet would be to probably mix up your own or finding something close to UPS brown.

What I know as Pullman Brown is a dark chocolate colour - British Pullman cars were painted this colour with a cream or ivory band at window level. If you take a look at Hornby’s Pullmans these are presumably the colour that you’re looking for and might make a good guide to mixing the correct paint (you could order some from Railmatch, but shipping costs would probably be somewhat fearsome).
It is a real colour, just not something you’d find in use these days. Many Pullman cars built for export, particulcarly before WW1, were painted in this colour. It is well known in the UK and Australia. On Australian Pullmans, it was a very dark purple-brown shade.
All the best,
Mark.
Before Pullmans were Pullman Green they were Pullman Brown, and yes I understand the UPS brown is that color or very close. I am not sure of this but I suspect most Pullman Brown cars were wooden cars not steel
