Question about underground terminals

How did they vent smoke from steam engines for underground stations like Penn Station in NYC? I was wondering how to model something like that.

IIRC Penn Station didn’t have any steamers in it – all the locos was electric. Don’t know where they made the switch from a steamer → electric (or vice versa) though.

Until the Northeast Corridor was electrified, locos were changed at Manhatten Transfer in Harrison, NJ.

And you thought it was just the name of an R&B group… [:D]

actually, Penn Station in New York City and the tunnels leading it were electrified from the very start. the NYC, on the other hand, did operate steam into Grand Central during the early years but a city ordinance required them to go electric after some bad mishaps in the tunnel south of 125th St. due to obscured vision from the smoke.
