Question to Randy....

…Randy I tried to supply some answers to your transit question of a few days ago and wondered if you saw it…

Yes I saw your advice ,I’ve yet to act on it been really busy. I’m trying to figure out how to post a photo or a link on the forums to show you.
Randy

It appears that it has to be on the internet. If it is just use the “Insert Hyperlink” button to put the address of the picture in. I wanted to post a picture that was not on the internet but could not find a way. I am guessing Kalmbach will not allow photos to be uploaded to its web site to prevent viruses.

I think it is a space thing, but you could check with Bergie.

To post a photo here it must first be stored on the web. My ISP allocates some storage space with my account. There are also free web hosts out there, so check around. Photos must be in JPG format. GIF’s might work, but I haven’t tried them. Then you just enclose the complete URL in the IMG command. You don’t need Bergie for this, there are plenty of members who can help you get them posted. If I remember correctly, I was the one who explained it to Modelcar.[swg] I would be happy to help you too.

Real convenient way to do this is via tinyurl.com

This site allows you to upload an image or file, and hyperlink to it via a special URL (which can be easily posted, pasted, etc.) We’ve used that in a variety of mailing lists with pretty good success…

Big_Boy…and I believe you are correct…but sadly I’ve not accomplished it. I can toss this computer around pretty good on many things but doing that seems just a bit of where I can’t seem to reach. I believe my ISP does have some storage space for me to use too but …everything combined, the process seems just a bit beyond my reach.

try www.umcycling.com/nscarsetroy.jpg Since I don’t have a scanner this is the only photo of me that is accessable. The kid in the forground is me
Randy

Wow, Randy…Quite a picture. Great shots of real Traction. Picture was taken a few years ago. First car [automobile], in lot at left looks to be a Studebaker Lark. Roughly a mid 40’s Chevy panel truck. Traction cars look to be of type with controls at one end only…At least they seem to have a headlight on one end only. But do have trolley poles on both end…so now I’m not sure…Nice old photo.

Yes those are studebakers but don’t get the idea that I’m THAT old… the photo was taken in 1977 at the East Troy trolley museum. LOL!!!
Randy

Which part of the process has you stumped, I can try to help you through it. This is one of those things where once you get it, it is pretty easy. Have you tried to upload a photo to the space? I have comcast, and they have an easy upload tool for their users. Your ISP may have something like that. That’s the first trick to making them show up here.

Randy, you are home free!!! All you need is the IMG command and the photo will show, like this:

To see what I did, click the quote button on this post.

thats cool!!! thanks, now I need to find someone witha scanner to scan my photo collection.
Randy

Nice pants [:D]!!!

Big_Boy…I do appreciate your offer of help. Just yesterday we added a small digital camera to our camera arsenal…and it was supposed to be a camera for the wife to be able to just point and shoot…The instruction book is much bigger than the camera. But, I don’t expect much of a problem with making it work. What I’m saying is it will now be easier to get current photos of whatever and try to pu***hem through here as apposed to doing it with film cameras and then on my scanner…etc. No, I really haven’t done any effort into my ISP lately…just haven’t done anything about doing the photo bit on here. My ISP is out of Indianapolis and is “Iquest.com”…When we get the soft ware downloaded on here from the camera and have something to try I will touch base with you and we’ll see what we can do…I thank you.

That’s the trick. Scanner prices have come down, if that is within your budget.

For me the answer has been to have a digital camera, and take lots of new photos with it. I also have a scanner that I use on some of the old shots, but I don’t do many. If I have someting in my collecton that will add to a conversation, I’ll take the time.

Now we need to get Modelcar squared away. Photos add so much to the forum, and they are fun to share.[8D]

…No Randy, no implacation of your age…just the photo and the setting. And I do like the photo…By the way, I’m curious…are those traction cars with controls only at one end…? [By the way, I’d guess 37].

Double ended cars from the North Shore Line. Coolest RR ever!!!
Randy

It does seem cool!!!

…Shortly after the North Shore line was abandoned I flew from Chicago to Milwaukee and noted the fresh abandoned RoW and remember thinking to myself…how straight that is…for miles…! And it seems wrong to abandon a traffic corridor like that between those two areas…what a waste. And now decades later…wouldn’t that make a great high speed corridor…if it was still open and clear.
