Railfanning with low gas prices?

So, how many of you have been railfanning a lot less during the high gas prices of the summer? Now how many of you are railfanning a bit more due to the falling prices? Where at? Getting any good shots?

I still can’t be chasing the B&P trains around like I once did, but I am starting to go after the locals a bit more. I’m trying to finsih my photo project there while the prices are a bit cheaper.

I’m thinking of heading up to the Twin Ports again to see what’s left of the Missabe Route and do a little photoing around Pokegama Yard and the area (right about the same time the “gales of November” took the Edmund Fitzgerald down).

If you plan to travel to western New York for railfanning, better fill up before you cross the state line. We have the dubious honor of having the highest gas prices in the lower 48. Best price I can find locally is $2.59, which is 42 cents higher than the average price in the Erie PA area. Even the Senecas are higher than PA, which itself is higher than most of Ohio. For me, it pays to travel.

Wow. Here in Jersey the average is about $1.85

I plan on heading out to Nebraska and the UP triple main on the 26th. Last year, I only made it to North Platte but this year, I’m going out to the coal fields and then Bozeman HIll. On the way back, I plan on checking out the scenery of south North Dakota. I figured the price would be the same as last year but get to go out to Montana.

Gas prices in the Appleton area is around $1.93 a gallon

Normally I don’t railfan very much in the summer. Not because of high gas prices, which, I suppose would cause me to find something else to do closer to home; but because south Florida summers are just too damn hot and humid. Brutal conditions to be trackside, I tell you what.

Now about those good shots… Just click the links below and judge for yourself. [;)]

I don’t think this summer’s gasoline price spike kept us at home. What with a trip involving motel rooms, meals, snacks on the road, and a probable oil change afterward, the extra $5 - $30 extra we spent for refueling is relatively trivial.

In the far north metro area of the Twin Cities, I saw gas prices at two stations this morning on the way into work at $1.74/gal. Chew on that OPEC!

…Lowest gasoline price in our area currently: $1.78 / gal.

Just take a look at my YouTube page and see for yourself [:)]

You will notice a bunch of new videos over the last few weeks while virtually none were posted during the previous 6+ months. In fact, on Friday 11/7 I took a day off and railfanned along the NS in the mountains of north Georgia. When I filled the tank for about $25, I was shocked almost as much as the $82 fillup earlier this year. Jamie
