As both a computer nut and a model railroader I would love to have some railroad theme Icons and Mouse Pointers for my windows based systems. Does anyone know where I might find some? I have been seaching the web for some time now. I have found lots of Icons and Mouse Pointers, but none with a railroad theme. Thanks. Bob.
Sorry Bob, but nope!!!
I’m in the process of making some icons. I did one (C&O drumhead logo) as an experiment and it turned out great BUT, I’m on a mac not windows so, what I’ll do is test it out on my windows box and see if they work. As for mouse pointers well, I know nothing about creating those for windows as on a mac you cannot change the pointer easily.
I’ll post again to share my results
until then

I found a UP and a BNSF theme. For the BNSF theme, just type BNSF theme into Google and it should be the first thing to pop up. You may want to change the colors but it will at lest give you the RR icons.

I found two Locomotive cursers at cursormania.com. One is an action cursor with the drive wheels turning and smoke from the stack, the other one has no animation. I have not found out how to use one for system busy and the other for normal cursor, but I will. Still looking!!! Bob
Here’s one…
http://www.fontempire.com/ – In the search box “File:” type in railroad and click the search button.
Thanks Dave, but I use Wallpaper from either Garden Railroad or Model Ralroad, I have a screen saver that will randomly pick BMP files, which are all either Garden railroads or N Scale layouts. I would love to fine a flashing crossing signal for system busy mouse pointers, etc. Thanks agin for the reply.
Hey Guys,
Beware that some of the free railroad and transportation cursors that are available on the web contain “Spyware”. Once you download it, others on the web can veiw your internet activities. I recently “cleaned up” my computer as a result of this.
Re: Railroad themes - Type www.AlabamaRailfan.com. When you get there, select Multimedia for the themes. It’s a very good website that has free, legitimate, downloadable themes that include railroad themed icons. I currently use the CSX theme on my computer.
It’s really cool and visitors get a kick out of it when they see my computers at work and home. ( Whenever I click on to a website, my mouse pointer turns into a GP38 as the computer works) .While the site deals heavily with Southern based railroads you will see a lots of good BNSF, UP and other locomotive shots that frequently visit the Alabama area.
Check out the website and post back with what you think of it!
Thats were I go to get my pointer. Its fun to see a CSX, CSX MOW, or NS geep roll across while a site is loading.
Thanks for the great site. I found some things I really like. This will make my compters at home and at work more rail freindly. Thanks Bob.
Didn’t the original “Plus” pack for Windows 95 include a theme where there was a blinking cross-buck for the “Busy/Wait” cursor?
thanks for the link. Most of the photos taken are near me, as I live in Madison AL. I think I am going to have to go do some railfanning in decatur…medic
Antonio;
Yes it is a great site. John Peterson, the gentleman who put the site together, and I are supposed to be getting together sometime soon to go down to my hometown of Selma, Al and do some railfanning there. When I was growing up we had the L&N, SRR, WofA, and Georgia RR. The SRR and L&N both had nice size yards there, but since the merger of L&N, WofA, and Georgia into CSX, that yard is almost gone. The L&N depot has been extensively restored and turned into a nice museum.
This site…

Has a SP theme that includes railroad/SP icons.
Well, It must have been a long day. I couldn’t find the Multimedia link at alabamarailfan.

That post was from three years ago.
Me too on the Mac here. It’s the industry standard in my profession. (sob the one I’ve been Doctor ordered to stop doing)
BUT… I do have a copy of “Iconographer” on system that supposedly
will export a Mac icon to Windows format. If you would like, PM me and We’ll see if it will in fact export to MS format.
