Re: A new Monday Thread

I totally agree, but I guess it’s the, “Weekend,” with the dates that bug me. Maybe we need a thread like the, “Beer Barn,” or “Elliott’s Trackside Diner,” maybe, “Hey, Look at my Photos,” that runs forever.

Ray

Having the dates on it might help if you are looking for something you know you saw in the last X weeks. Having a new thread every week helps keep the thread from getting too cumbersome, which a neverending thread of photos would be, I think.

I think Jeff’s suggestion makes a lot of sense. Just have a thread called “Model Photo Fun” with the week date as part of the title. So, if we wanted to start one of this week, it would be MPF, Oct 1-7. We’d then start another thread on October 8 so one thread doesn’t go into hundreds of pages. I like to see a good pic any time and I don’t really see a reason to limit it to weekends.

I don’t see any reason to limit it to new photos either.

I don’t get much time for the forums so I usually look for the threads with subjects that interest me. However any threads you come up with will probably add to the interest. Go right ahead![8D]

I secong the motion to reformat it to a weeklong thread. I agree on the use of something like “weekly photo fun: October 1-7”, since some of us don’t check in as often on weekends, or we might use a high speed connection at work (or whatever).

Brad

Clearly there is a desire amongst a few to post photos most days, or even several times a day. Others enjoy participating in a time-limited thread. I don’t see why we can’t accommodate both groups and let each of them, as individual members of either, or even both, post as the thread invites…providing we can come up with a title that clears it up for virtually everyone.

So, we can keep the “sanctity” of the Weekend Photo Fun 5-7 October 2007, and post any time we please to Daily Modelling Photos …with the two ells, of course. [:-,]

Well, here’s a photo for Tuesday![:D]

It’s train time at Cinncinnatti.

Oh come on RT, don’t you think that comment was over the top? Obviously not everyone can be a professional grade photographer like you.

I too have noticed that the WPF threads have been running well past the weekends, but honestly never considered it a big deal. If it bothers people that much, why don’t you ask the moderators to lock those topics on Monday morning? That would take care of ‘the big problem’ and preserve the topic.

As far as change of formats goes, I’m certainly not set on anything specific. I am however concerned that running weekly & weekend photo topics would over-saturate the forum with too much of a good thing. I’d suggest we pick one or the other.

Just not the same one over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over and over…

Have you posted a lot of pictures, R.T.? If so, I must have missed them. Why would you torture yourself so by spending hours looking at things you don’t like? I know you like sarcasm but this type of thing does nothing to contribute to the atmosphere here.

Here’s my idea:

  • Make two distinct threads: “Weekday Photo Fun” (WDPF) and a “Weekend Photo Fun” (WPF)
  • Have distinct posting times for each week’s thread - i.e. start and finish: [Edited]
  • WDPF would start Monday, 12:01 12:00 AM and go through Friday, 12:00 11:59 PM
  • WPF would start Saturday, 12:01 12:00 AM and conclude Sunday, 12:01 11:59 PM
  • Allowances: One post per week, per forum member, in either one - with a maximum of 6 photos per post. That’s 12 pics per week! More than ample to show off your stuff! (Otherwise, the threads just get horrendously large.)
  • Any compliments, comments, and questions should be reserved for PMs or e-mails to the postee. Let the pics stand or fall on their own. This will deter any online flaming between forum members.
  • Rules would be posted at the beginning of each week’s thread so that members and visitors could be reminded of the rules.

OK, its Tuesday already and only one poster has shown us a photo. Rules? Positive comments or suggestions only and no quoting the photos, just the authors name.

Why don’t we just call it Photo Fun and be done with it. A new thread could be started every Friday (the date would be included in the thread title).

Sorry if I’m making too much sense![;)]

Weekend photo fun used to be my favorite thread.

Now it is over-saturated and there is nothing special about it. Running it around the clock is not different from running multiple threads running around the clock.

It used to be Sunday Photo Fun. This was a thread where people posted a picture of the best of what they had accomplished all week. It gave a person a good goal to work toward–to get it done in time for Sunday’s tread. Now I don’t know what it is. Postathon. Walk on egg shells so a troll doesn’t appear. It’s lost its fun for me.

Maybe I’m a relic, but I miss those times. I fear, however, it can never return.

Thats great and all Tom, but we have a full 24 hours of no photos… did you mean that, or that the start should be 12:01AM and they should end at 11:59PM on the designated day(s)?

I have a question for yuz…what got broken?

Got your point, Dan. [:)] (I always seem to get confused how to designate midnight.) How 'bout this:

  • WDPF would start Monday, 12:00 AM and go through Friday, 11:59 PM
  • WPF would start Saturday, 12:00 AM and conclude Sunday, 11:59 PM

Tom

I say just leave it as it is. So what if people want to post to the weekend post on Wednesday or Thursday two weeks later… It really doesn’t hurt anything, does it? Are we going to petition Bergie to lock the thread on Monday Morning? There are people who dig up total ancient threads 2 or 3 years old and post to them… If I just have to share a photo or two during the week, I will probably start a “Hey, look at what I did” thread or something like that rather than post to an old thread. To each there own (said the maid as she kissed the cow…).

I think the constant railing against poor photography and unfinished scenes has stifeled the enthusiasm of newer modelers like myself. I know we beat this subject to death a few weeks ago, but a I felt I needed to say something. I would imagine there are many modelers out there like myself without someone to share their progress with. I can show my wife, but I get a shrug of the shoulders and a “oh, that’s nice.” I don’t feel the need to share EVERY picture I’ve taken, however it’s nice to get feedback from a few progress shots. This idea of making set rules and standards for the WFP or whatever you want to call it is silly. Most things are good in moderation. If everyone can use some self control, we won’t have to have conversations like this.

Edit: Sorry, after reading my post, I realized I veered a little off topic. This was just some of my thoughts in general about wfp.
