Re: RE:COFFEE POT #11 November 2010 for all to take a drink and chat. 5+ years and going. Plenty of coffee but also shrimp and grits along with sweet ice tea.

Home from the lake. [:'(] Worked the greeter position at the Church’s Fall Festival [Halloween carnival]. Met lots of new folks that might become members. People from all over the US. [:D]

Ribbon cutting on County Emergency Rehab Center [Alcohol and Mental] tomorrow morning. Then County Commissioners followed by Town Board.

Now for some popcorn [yes this late].

Sleep tight.

Shrimp and grits? What a waste of perfectly good shrimp!

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s. Picked up Roger Carp’s 101 Postwar Classics book at Border’s. Looks like it will be a good read. We also saw one of “my” soccer girls play about 25 minutes in a 3-0 loss. She acquitted herself well. Wife and I went to Pizza Hut after the game and then to Kohl’s. Missed some of the early trick or treaters, but entertained several with the ghost in the attic and the Black Caver Flyer running in the front bay window. It was a good day. Watched “Desperate Housewives” and then played cards with the wife. I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast. Today was the last day for the Cleats comic strip. Always enjoyed it as it was usually soccer based. TBIL anytime and I can drive. I am you with you, Dennis, regarding the image of SJ in a thong??? I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

PS I posted this on the October pot but figured no one would read it as it was after the Chief started the one for November. Also, I can be on the first page.

Morning to all. Happy November. Where does the time go? It seems as though we just started summer and now winter is fast approaching. Freeze warnings here last night with temps in the upper 20’s.

Yesterday was kind of a lazy day, watched the NASCAR race, cooked dinner and then wound up flipping between the Saints vs Steelers and NHRA. I dozed through the NHRA event but did manage to hear that John Force won the Funny Car event. Read in this morning’s paper that the Steelers lost to the Saints.

Another busy week with faculty meeting after school today and evening parent conferences on Wednesday, though schools are closed Tuesday for Election Day. Hopefully the little ones will be on their best behavior today, although I betting on the sugar rush from Trick or Treat to get the week started in style.

Have a great day.

Mitch

Hi GUYZ,

HAPPY NOVEMBURRRRR!!!

Cool one here at 30 only to get to 51. Gotta suck up leaves tonite after school. On Saturday got 2 Pheasants, first time in about 5 years shot a double, two birds flushed at same time knocked down first one the got the second. Just call me DEADEYE!!! Must be getting those pointers from TOM KNAPP has been helping out?

Got track down on layout and fired up the tracks, just to see how everything ran. I will do this for a couple of weeks just to see if there are no problems or PILE UPs.

Stay frosty,

laz57

Good Morning from Blueberryhill…

It is a cold 30 degrees. Going up to 70 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I have a few errands to run and the usual chores to do. Got some quality time in, in the train room. I enjoy that.

Shrimp is great. Grits is good for spackling walls.

Dining car is here from “Points West”. The usual Cheerios is breakfast.

Y’all have a great Monday.

Chuck

Mornin’ boys. As Mitchie indicated, frost on the pumpkin here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Need to get working on two layouts this week.

Aloha all. A beautiful cold day here in the Loop. Lotsa filming downtown - I noticed the trucks for Contagion and something else. An enjoyable Halloween was had - lotsa little visitors - made it to curfew with 6 pieces of candy to spare - and the youngest (Darth Vader) and I had ourselves a good walk around the neighborhood. Looks like a busy week.

[:$]morning guys almost forgot it was the first. good thing chief eagles is on the ball. must be those grits. god bless everyone on this blustery day. am bidding on three lionel christmas cars to go with an engine by k line i got several years ago. navyjack

Morning all. Home for the day as I had to take kids to school and going to do some work around the house. Laz, congratulations on the hunt. I had a guy take out two turkey with one shot. I asked him if times were that tough that he has to conserve on ammo? Of course, his was all luck.

Chief, sounds like you are keeping to your crazy schedule. Just remember to take it easy and enjoy your retirement…yeah!

Only one more day till the calls stop…I hope. Got one this morning from one of those paid solicitors, the ones who give less than 1% to a charity and the rest to “administrative fees”. Tempted to tell him we only take political calls at this time[:P]

Our kids have been reciting the geico commercial, the one with R.Lee Ermy, “Does a retired Drill Instructor make a poor therapist?” It really is funny.

Have a great day,
Dennis

Dennis,

I’ve given up on answering the phone this morning. Three times so far with a recording each time.

So far on the talking station build, I’ve got the 755 mechanism mounted in the 589, and all that is left is to wait for the reproducer and turntable to arrive.

I’ve been following the Log Cabin Train Shop threads here and on OGR, and it is depressing/enraging to say the least. Bill was my first choice for parts, and I also did business with him in person several times. He had an amazing amount of parts with an equally amazing amount of knowledge to back it up. Bill was also without question the best to deal with. I hope that those who wronged him get what they deserve.

Good Mornin’ Ya’ll From Cold but Cloudless Taxachusetts,

Hope everyone had a joyous and safe Halloween 2010. My wife and I sure did.

It was a clear but breezy and mid 40s for Halloween TOT last night. Wifey was feeling under the weather, so it was time for RI52 to do his best impression of Martha Stewart and come to the rescue, albeit sans prison garb.

We had 9 kiddies and their parents over for the Halloween festivities which commenced at 5PM. Murphy’s Law (not DougM’s) interceded right out of the box with a couple of minor early wardrobe malfunctions and child tears to kick things off…but nothing that an army of problem-solving parents could not rectify. This year we had more kids ringing the doorbell than I could ever recall…the parents from who-knows-where drive into the neighborhood in caravans, park it, and make the rounds, some pulling wagons to carry all of the loot and emergency supplies. One group pulled up in a golf cart! Another observation from yesterday…older "kids’ were mysteriously sparce this year. And all of the costumes seemed especially well thought out and executed.

Although this annual event at our place is supposed to be an after dinner get together, we always serve up some hearty fare just in case. Beef stew, scala bread, and pizza yesterday, much of which was devoured after the kiddies and their parents got back to the house from TOT.

While da boyz settled in to NFL football on TV in the FR and the ladies took over the kitchen for some spirited yakking (go figure), the kids took over&n

Good morning all,

It was very cool this morning; only 42 degrees when I went out to run. The wind was also blowing at 12 mph. The high temp today is only 61, and there is a cold front expected later this week. It now finally feels completely like fall. Once the temps drop another 30 degrees or so, I will be very happy.

I am looking forward to a busy day today at work. I don’t have much on the agenda following work; probably continue to swindle some of the kids’ candy [}:)]. Tonight’s MNF game does not interest me too much so I may catch a little of the WS.

Brutus/8N - My son loved his costume. Unfortunately, he could not even do the robot dance from the 80s, let alone quote Lost in Space lines from the 60s - heck, my wife has never even seen that show. I was fortunate enough to see reruns when I was growing up.

S.J. - I hope you are enjoying the warmth. I guess the Lions do better when you’re out of town [(-D].

Goody day,

Joe

Afternoon all. No frost here in Dixieland. On the run from one event to another. Later.

Good morning all, happy November and I can’t believe it’s here already. Pretty quiet Halloween night. Not too many kids. Little boys next door came by and they were having a ball. They are only about 5 and 6 years old. Got an E mail from an old timer railroad friend of mine from back East this morning with a question about tonnage ratings and helper engines. Almost burned out my brain trying to remember all that stuff. I’ve been retired for 10 years now and haven’t used that information for a long time. I dragged out an old timetable with special instructions and was reminded of all the things we used to have to know running engines. It is even more complicated now I here. The rule books used to be something you could carry in your back pocket. Now they look like a phone book. Went out to eat with friends after church yesterday to a Sunday Brunch. Son tooks us out for dinner last night so we had an easy day with no cooking at all.

Laz, good job on the pheasants.

Have a good week y’all

Ray

Hi guys

Hot hi 80s

We decided not to do the atlantic with Gulf of Mexico right at our doorstep. We brought home about 30 fish and probably threw back at least half that many. I’m not sure what’s planned for the rest of the day but who cares I’m warm…S.J.

OMG me in a thong, would that be depressing.

Just back from taking a load of heifer calfs to auction. Averaged 705# each. This year prices are better on the heaver calfs. Less time spent in feed lots eating expensive corn. Sale is tomorrow.

Election phone calls. I may have said this before, but we let the answering machine take all calls.

The Shrimp is for the bay people and the East & West Coasters. Most of us prefer Grits.

Jack - Good thing you weren’t wearing a kilt!

Chief - No anti-freeze in the tire. Lost that last time the tire was flat.

Pat

Afternoon All,

Halloween over, now just one more day and hopefully we’ll get rid of ghoulies of two years ago. [|(]

Between a few extra days at the museum and spending morning. noon & night in the garage for the past couple of weeks I’m pooped. However many of the comments I heard last night made it worthwhile. [:)]

Lots of little ones, teens, and older folks, escorting the little ones, hung around for a bit after receiving their treats to watch the trains run. The Grim Reaper Gateman was a big hit as was one of those Crawling Hands, motion activated, I put upside down on the layout and there was sufficient vibration for activation so the fingers & thumb would move. First beggars appeared about 5:30 and the last about 9:00, fairly steady all evening and a few neighbors who sat & enjoyed some Sam Adams & White Zin.

Now for a bit of downtime to recover, won’t be taking the layout down til next monday so some friends of our daughter and their cookie crunchers can visit sunday.

Later All, feel a snooze coming on. [:-^]

Well here it is Nov. 1 and I’ve been MIA quite a while so I thought I’d just do a quick fly over so you don’t have to send out search parties. It’s been quite a fall season, just tremendous weather since Sept. 1 and our trip to Colorado was wonderful, clear blue skies/warm daytime temps and in the 30’s at night and DRY!! I trailered my Wing to Copper Mtn. and ended up doing about 1,000 miles in loops back to the resort each night. We had a wonderful time and I would consider living in CO … I know, I’ve said that for 38 years but it’s also nice not having a mortgage payment any longer.

The marching band judging season took off in earnest at the end of Sept. and I just had my last commitment last week, good to be done and the weather was perfect every weekend. I was able to break away for a few days during the week and explore the Great River Road (again) and I always enjoy that. We’ve even had the grandkids here for a few weekends, that’s just the best. Our immediate family is doing great but there is great heart ache with other members with terminal illnesses, tough situations.

Not much action in the train room lately but with us hosting Thanksgiving I just know the grand kids and I will be down there A LOT to just have some BIG FUN [Y]

Will check in Dec. 1, stay well.
