Its on this site but, its the most rediculuos thing I have ever seen. Can somebody make sense of this or is it just as stupid as I interpetted it.

Old news…APRIL FOOLS
It is part of the April fool’s story in the April issue of the mag. It is just meant to be a joke.
What’s ridiculous is the spelling of ridiculous.
Non of you get it. It’s a new 5DCC command control system. This will work in ANY scale with any and all systems. It is backwards compatible with all your older locos.
All you need to do is disable all the drive systems so they freewheel. And the best thing is it very easy to program. Just punch in the loco number in you hand and that loco is instantly programmed. It’s so easy, even a CAVEMAN can do it![(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]
Wow! Now THAT was REALLY cool! [tup] I like the fact that with the 5-DCC Control system, two operators can easily acquisition one another’s trains without even a hiccup! I’m REALLY looking forward to the upcoming release date in April. (Rats! I knew I should have held off getting my NCE PowerCab! [:(!])

That is beyond rediculous. April Fool’s jokes have to be clever and have some thread of truth. That is really lame!!!. It is bad as all the pages they wasted on the undecorated railroad “joke”.

Aw come on, it’s absolutely hilarious! And it DOES have a thread of truth, I saw a guy who made a controller and sound systm similar to this, and used it quite successfully!
Has anyone figured out how to get it to work in tunnels?
My 6 year old developed this same system for HO scale in parallel and we will soon be issuing litgation! The tunnel solution is to have a train longer than the tunnel. Either my Athearn unpowerd calf, my Walthers Dynamometer car or and Athearn MOW car are used as locomotives. 5DCC has one major drawback, it plays havoc with the trees and other taller items near the front of the layout!
Actually, I thought the article in the magazine was okay… cute but not hilarious. The video, however, I found quite funny.
Wise decision by the MR staffers involved to not show their faces, though. They’d never hear the end of it!

That answer is what I call clever and funny. The April’s fool joke in model railroader is not clever or funny because that is what we did when we were six.

I hope we don’t take the hobby so seriously that we can’t give room for us to poke fun at ourselves once in a while.
And the MR April Fools thing goes back to the founding of the magazine. It warms my heart to see there’s at least some things in MR that remain, with all the other things I really miss now history (like the Bull Session column). [swg]

Actually it is not a new system. In a article on the history of model railroading (in MR many years ago) there were photos of a pioneer HO modeler using the system in the 1930’s. It was not a joke. At that time motors small enough to fit in an HO loco were apparently not available.
What I like is, it’s a joke that people who don’t KNOW what DCC is can still appreciate. I’ve forwarded the link to a number of non-MR friends, and gotten back nothing but giggles.

Well I, for one, have already contacted my lawyer and he says that I have a very strong case for litigation. I have had that system installed on my layouts for 55 years! And now some other company (that SeLF Control one) has blatently stolen that system that I myself personally invented when I was 4 years old. My Sisters will attest to the fact that I indeed used trhat at that time. He says he will start on the case as soon as he is finished with the one against Apple Computer for that poor inocent kid who lost his hearing due to listening to his i-pod… His partner would take the case but he is busy with the MTH thingy and the case against McDonalds for making people eat to much and become lard-a$$e$.
