any trouble shooting tips. the elf and reindeer are not moving around the gondola. infact its vibrating quite a bit. any ideas. i got it at a trunk sale so i dont think lionel will take it back. it looks like a simple operation underneath. thanks

okay did you check to see what there union is demanding ? they have a very tough union to deal with its elf’s and reindeer local 2389 NP
I imagine it basicly the same as the operating gondola from the 60’s if so there seems to be just a few parts. best thing to do is one to carefully take it apart and see what seems broke and call jeff tonight as he will be heading to york probally tomorrow if he hasn’t left today. I look in my repair guide for trains from 1945 to 1969 and it doesn’t look that hard.

Check the gears underneath,sometimes they don’t mess right. I have a erie hobo gondola that does that sometimes and a little bit of lithium grease on the gear usually makes it work. Hope this helps?

In addition to what laz57 posted, my N.P.C.L. gon. has a friction drive(rubber)band around two axles.
Each, of the two axles, should be set tight in their respective wheels and the two wheel sets fit into the truck’s side frames, but loosly.
Either, the wheels became loose, from the axles, or the band is not set correctly, is loose, or is broken off.
