Senator Baldwin introduces crude-by-rail regulation bill

As usual, there are reasons they call these new laws “Bills”.

While the Senator is at it, she ought to appropriate the extra money that it will cost the railroads. Perhaps then the bill ought to extend to every highway over which hazardous cargo travels. Then she could it expand it further to cover the drivers that talk and text while driving and who imperil interstate commerce moving by trucks - and then maybe the big rigs that pull out to pass each other when going uphill with a speed differential of .5 mph. Oh, the possibilities are endless! (-;

There is nothing unsafe about the tankcars if you keep them on the rail. Nobody talks about the CAUSES of the derailments, just that they blew up.

In several of the recent derailments the cars that burnt were in fact ones designed and built under the latest standards. What do you do when you get rid of the DOT 111 cars and you still have fires? If you make them run all the crude oil trains slower what happens when municipalities complain that the train is taking to long to go through their town?

I wonder if she has a clue where the people of the State of Wisconsin get their propane from and delivered by? Or any of the other chemicals that are just as likely to cause a catastrophic mess IF they should derail.
Oil trains are the boogeyman of the month these days and everyone wants to get on the bandwagon of Safety At All Costs!
