Good evening all,
MichRR714, your mention of Southfield brings back memories of working for Federal-Mogul and going there for corporate meetings from time to time. That was a long time ago. Worked in IT for a ball bearing plant for almost 20 years that was 5 minutes from home. Anyone who was employed there had the world by the posterior and nobody appreciated that fact. We threw it all away… Work went much, much better than expected. Weather hot. Wife still ouchy from yesterday. I hope everyone has a good day.

KRM - That’s a good looking young man there. [swg]
A weird summer of storms. We had more of them yesterday. The new L catalog is on line this morning if you are interested. S.J.
Good morning all,
I am sitting on the fence about what to do with my old 87 Buick Century four door sedan. It only has about 105K miles on it and runs good. The trouble is that it is starting to cost me. Needs new tires, new A/C, shocks, a paint job, rubber boots on the front end. Probably needs about $2000 worth of work or more and I doubt if I could get 1K for it. I also pay Ins. and registration which is coming up in November for $92.
The DMV says they might give you $1000 to get an old car off the road if it does not pass the smog test but I found out they have run out of money so no telling how long you have to wait plus jump through a lot of government hoops. If it passes the smog test, I think I will keep it until I find a better solution. I foolishly put $342 in it last month for a new fuel pump and a new battery before that. Last Wednesday the mechanism that rolls the front window up and down on the passenger side broke and that’s probably an expensive fix. I got it closed and will leave it that way.
It’s a tiger by the tail!
Ray
Ray, on the Buick,
Ray, it is pushing 30 years old. I would send it south of the boarder. Spending the $$$$$$$$ for what it needs would be putting perfume on a pig. Sounds like it needs a lot. JMHO. Maybe look for something somewhat newer and like Dennis seems to find around there.
Still WAY hot on the North Bluff. Went to the thersherman’s show in Pontiac IL. with my neighbor who has a 1957 AC D14 in the show we took there today. It was so hot in the sun with no wind and +90 with high humidity I could not wait to get out of there. Still a lot of cool old steam tractors and engines. Tomorrow is a 30 mile tractor ride but I will pass. Only cut a small section of grass and quit.
Have a nice night.
Good evening all,
Quiet day at work. Did a longer walk today. Tendon is ok, but lower calf is still a bit tender although the longer I walked the better it got. Hot outside. Tried out the new stairs tonight as we brought down a lot of Lucas’ stuff to take with us on Sunday. Stairs are wonderful. Lights and window trim are about done. Looked at new Lionel catalog. Not much of interest. Stuff priced too high. Ray, I am not too sure what to advise on the Buick. I think the smog test would be the deal breaker. The other items can be mostly done on an “as you can afford it” basis. I hope everyone has a good day.

Checked it out tonight SJ and the only two things I liked were the EJ&E EMD SD-38 (page 20) that they do not even have a true picture of and those Heisler logging steamers. I lived on the J tracks all of my life and saw those SD-38 for years. But at $650.00 and $1,300.00 They are way past my train budget. And come on. No true picture of the SD-38??? What are they thinking???
Hello there,
Never a dull moment here. Tomorrow AM I gotta get Mom’s coal bin ready. 8 ton due to arrive in the PM. Doug Yes mom’s house is heated via Hard (anthracite) coal from Laz’s neck o’ PA It is hot water baseboard supplied by a EFM Boiler. My house is heated by a hand fired boiler using Soft (bituminous) coal . Widely available in the Appilachian’s
Last weekend I aquired the use of a 50’ towable boom lift. Trimmed several trees and painted some high windows that had too many obstructions to reach from a ladder. (35 years ago the ladder would’ve been ok for all of it)
Unbelievably dry here considering the wet start of summer. Son is probably going to bush hog the beans. They are 90% brown and mostly blind. Spend more in fuel to combine than what the harvest would be worth. At this point the corn could be break even.
Ray…I’d try t peddle that '87 to the mexicans. Take the money and add what you need to spend and get something newer
88…thanks for the email. Prayers for Christina and a job. Was hoping to see you at York. Please keep me posted.
Buckeye…is it true you’re gonn
Nice Banks!!! We got six now but we see the daughters kids most of the time, The son’s side is maybe or not. Thanks for sharing. [:)]
I got to get the grand-son Jordan to start cutting trees with me. [(-D]
WAKE UP
Sun and 80s today. Banks nice pic and a fine looking group of offsprings. We have 6 grandsons, I had hope for a girl or 2 in the mix but it didn’t happen.

Sat. 85 Sun. 90 Mon. 91 just saw this on TV seconds ago. This is for the San Fernando Valley.
Ray on the Buick unused cars take up room, require insurance, registration renewal and smog checks.
I get the idea you don’t need it or use it much and its kind of more a burden than anything you use.
Therefore I’d sell it but you know much better than I. The trouble is I was dissapointed at the lack of intrest when I sold my 89 Cavalier Z-24 and my 87 Prelude Si.
Put it in Craigslist and keep on renewing the ad every week, follow their rules and check that your ad is there, I thought I had my ad renewed when it wasen’t there.
My Prelude sold by putting a ad in the window and parking it when I go to church at a spot where a lot of people saw it.
Put your phone no. in the reply part of the Craigslist ad, their email reply thing they have I question weather it works. If people can’t reach you their not going to buy your car.
Don’t accept I’ll pay ypu 500 now and 500 next month type of nonsense.
Craigslist is pretty well it, they have replaced newspaper ads, Pennysaver, Recycler etc.
And be certain you have the buyer fill out his name and address on that part of the pinkslipand mail it in. I believe I posted the 6 month nightmare and big worry when I failed to do that when I sold the Cavalier.
Good day all.
A touch of rain over night with a lot of noise. It did drop the temps some but they will return to the mid 90s by this afternoon. [8D]
The leaves are turning and already starting to fall from some of the trees. It is on the way! [yeah]
Happy Birthday to Ryan!! [bday] [^] [B] [Y]
Dennis et al, thanks for the input about the Buick. I think I will keep it until the smog check comes up in two months. If it fails, I will dump the car. Right now it is driveable but I will not put another dime in it. I just use it as a back up car if my good car is in for service or something. In the future, I could just rent a car for a day or two if I need one. The dealer gives you a free rental if the bill is over a certain amount. Whatever! It’s cheaper in the long run than maintaining the old one.
Just read on Trainorders.com recently that Metrolink is taking the new cab control cars off of the point because of a weak pilot (cow catcher) that allows wreckage to get under the wheels and cause derailments like the one in Oxnard a while back. In the interim they will use leased engines on opposite ends of the train. They will retrofit the cab cars which may take several months.

Good evening all,
Filled the minivan up with Lucas’ stuff. Took a while to get it all sorted and loaded. Rested the rest of the day. Got an hour of rain that cooled things off for a while. Watched the Indy 11 win 3-0. All in all, it was a good day. I hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin’ boys. Nice summer day in the Mid-Atlantic region. Invited to in-laws for a cookout later. Perhaps yatchet tonight or tomorrow. Wifey spent all afternoon pitchin’ and a throwin’ her stuff, so things are rampin’ up in fifedom.
Was kinda disappointed in Michael’s Lemax display. Did pick up Wanda’s Wicked Cupcakes for middle princess. She’s a big Harry Potter fan, and I’ve been putting together some Hogwart’s “like” buildings for her over the past several years. Amazing, as popular as the series is, that none of the big collectibles outfits (Dept 56, Hawthorne Village, LEMAX) has put out any villages pertaining to that. Hopefully, Big L will put out a new Hogwarts Express with Lion Chief. I’ll ask at YORK.
Charlie, Next time in about six months. [B]
Banks, Yes I am registered for York this fall. I’ll arrive on Thursday about noon. I’ll also be in NC this fall, but not close enough to harrass the Chief. [:-^] Ah, shucks.
Probably scared to come close. Deer season will be in. [:-^]
Home from SIL’s in VA. Worked on deck until 5 yesterday. Started a 7:30 and got it done by 1 today. It was 16X 16. Had to build three steps. One was 5 foot tall to come from a tall deck down to the new one. Had rain while we were gone. Grass to mow tomorrow. Rest up now after a shower [Wifey and I hit the road as soon as I got my “stuff” loaded]. Old man is stiff and tired.

Good morning all,
A/C is still not working good at church. We left right after communion. Thought about going to a different parish but toughed it out at our regular one. Whatever happened to those old hand held fans with a wooden stick on it? They would come in handy now. I’m thinking about getting one of those hand held battery powered fans with soft rubber blades until they fix the problem. The church needs a lot of work and the A/C is part of some master plan to fix all of it. Meanwhile we wait.
Went out to eat tonight with our friend who seems to have adopted us since his wife passed away. Don’t mind but it’s too frequent. I have too much on my plate to baby sit him as well as my wife. Sorry for the rant.
No plans for tomorrow but our kids are coming over. Hope they bring something to eat. I told them all I had in the refrigerator was some frozen hot dogs. Might check a local market tomorrow and see if they are selling precooked ribs like they did last year.
Happy labor day all,
Ray
Good evening all,
Had a nice visit with Lucas. Their new place is nice. It will do well for them for now. Got everything unloaded. Stopped at wife’s sister place on way home. Just got home. It was a good day. I hope everyone has a good day.
