Steam Engines in Trains Mags

Maybe I’m just young, but it seems like Trains posts too many steam pics. Do we really need a page long report on 3985/844/4449/1285…stretching their legs every month?

I haven’t seen the issue yet, but do I think that TRAINS publishes too many steam photos? Absolutely not!

[banghead][D)] Why do people ask stupid questions like you, so, steam was the best part of railroading, @#$% the diesels! haven’t you ever noticed that waay back thats all that ran when ur grandparents were alive, and back then, they didn’t know a dumb diesel would kill steam, thats why they put pic’s of steam in every issue to tell you what there doing to that locomotive, since there’s only about 250 left out of the 4000 there were!!! and about only 30 are still operating service!!!11[banghead][banghead][D)][:-,][tdn][#dots]

Joby-
I hope some day you get to stand near the tracks when one of those monsters goes by at speed. Then you will know.

Uh, yeah. The more steam photos the better. In a pinch I’ll accept a photo of an Alco diseasel if it’s really smokin’ it up, but steam is better.

You’re still young, grasshopper. There’s so much to learn. Come over to the Dark Side (as in coal or Bunker “C” fuel oil).

Regards

Ed

AMEN!! Brother!!

The first time you see a large steam engine,or even better, ride a UP steam excursion,YOU WILL UNDERSTAND[:)][:D][8D][:p]!!!

BTW[#welcome] to the forum.

Joby: Welcome to the forum. I’m not a big steam fan, but I can appreciate steam locomotives for what they are- a living part of railroad’s past.[:)]

To the extent that steam locomotives like those listed are a part of the contemporary railroad scene it seems quite appropriate to report on their activities in Trains magazine, rather than Classic Trains.

…As I see it, TRAINS magazine IS a mag. of railroading’s past, and present…So doesn’t it make sense to include all aspects of the hobby and the real life ongoing business. So many years of railroading were powered with nothing but steam engines so it has to be a major portion of content…Of course a common sense balance of subjects should prevail in each months rendition and for my part believe it pretty much occurs that way. Personally I do not want a saturated monthly on just steam as that is not my major interest but definitely must be included. And yes, I grew up when steam was king in my early life…

Two things in life, other than marriage, death, and birth, have left a lasting impression on me and most who experience them:

  1. Observing Saturn through a telescope for the first time.
  2. Watching, sensing, feeling, hearing, a steam engine roar by you at speed.

Lasting impressions.

Big steam small steam geared steam whatever! You know what kid Ill remember this in the future on this board when some new kid says " Do they have to post dash 9’s every month" HEHEHEHE.
