Hi there - I’m looking into this now - thank you for bringing this it our attention
I don’t use any ad blocker and they are all over the place.
Started yesterday around 5 PM CST.
Rich
Hey everyone. We were testing out the ad placements.
We’re working with our ad provider to ensure the ads that appear are on brand and applicable to this audience.
The ads have been disabled for now.
Thank goodness, they got worse as time went on.
Thanks, Nick.
Rich
Nick, thanks for the quick action. I don’t necessarily expect ad free, but I would at least like them related to the Firecrown lineup in some manner. Having Firecrown staff here is night and day from where we were. An issue or question pops up and the wheels start turning quickly. It is very much appreciated.

+1!
Regards, Chris
Nick, I recently flagged something on here that was promoting WhatsApp, I hope it was removed.

I don’t mind ads that have their place, especially if they are somewhat related to the forum’s focus. I do mind ads that block content - on the old forum I could block the ads by proper tweaking of the settings for Firefox.
And place the ads in decent places, not plopped all over the place.
Be nice if some railroad museums advertised or some of the vendors that advertise in the magazine itself.
Nick, the ads are back.
They are not “on brand” and are not applicable to this audience. Many are offensive. Not a single ad has anything to do with trains or model railroading.
Rich
On it
Nick, I think I solved my problem with the ads.
Check out my thread in the Model Railroader forum.

I’m outta’ here, the ridiculous flood of ads is too much! ![]()
I haven’t seen any ads in well over a month.
Hi there - before you go, I’d love to check in here as we haven’t had the ads turned on for over 2 weeks now.
Are you talking about trains.com? Or specifically this forum?
Dunno, Nick. The ads are essentially the same ones as before. I have yet to see even one model railroading related ad.
Rich
Yeah, now the ads are just as bad in content and worse in placement: instead of just being at the top of the page, they are interspersed among the posts. I don’t think the “ad provider” (whatever that is) understands the demographics here. The real and welcome efforts to build a community are already being undermined by the sloppiness of the implementation. If ads be necessary, confine them to one place, and keep the content clean and relevant (or, at least, unobjectionable to the audience).
As mentioned in my post yesterday, we’re going to give the ads some time to adjust to be more on brand for this forum. It’s been less then 24 hours.
If we find that overtime the ads continue to be more of a nuisance then help, we’ll go back to the drawing board.
Speaking with the team to keep the ads only at the top and bottom of the pages - not within the thread responses - more to come
