Thanxs MR!!!

A few months back i recived a offer from Model Railroader in the mail that said if you want a free issue send this card back to us and if you want to subscribe we will bill you $29.95 for 11 more issues. So of course i did (everyone wants a free MR) they never sent the Magasine[:(!] nothing i can do now but if they say the will send a free issue i expect they should!! dont you. Tim

Were you already a subscriber when this happened?

Did you check that it was sent by kalmbach publishing and it came from a PO Box from Milwaukee/Waukesha?

oh no and am still not whatys the deal???

There are companies that just sell subscriptions to magazines, a version of snail mail spam. You send the card back, they send the info to MR, you get the magazine (or you’re supposed to) and everyone makes a little money on it. If it’s been more than 2-3 months it’s probably lost in limbo somewhere. Or they just harvested your address as a likely candidate for more junk mail.
I’d just pick up a copy of MR, then subscribe through the card they have in there- right now they have their contest going on for their $2000 shopping spree plus other prizes, if you’re going to sub why not go that route?

oh well what can you do i guess. I just wi***hey had sent the magasine. i do think it was legit though because it had MRs addres on . Wakusha Wisconsion

You can contact the circulation department and find out whether you’ve been added to the magazine’s list of subscribers.

Contact customer service at either 800-533-6644 between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Central Time, or send an e-mail to customerservice@kalmbach.com. If calling from outside the US and Canada, use 262-796-8776 for the phone number instead of the one given above.

You need to learn how to articulate yourself a little better, and use a spell check. You come off sounding like a slobbering idiot in some of your posts.

I pulled the same offer out of a MR I purchased at the hobby shop… Sent it in, they sent me a bill for the remaining year… On the bill was a check box that said extend to 2 year subscription. Checked it, called them with CC info and the subscription has begun… If they sent you an invoice and you didn’t return it, with payment, that’s why you are no longer getting the magazine… If you did get the invoice and you are past the date, call them anyway, they may still honor the price. Not everything is a spam solicitation. SOME TIMES, MR DOES offer a lower price.

HAHAHA, for some reason that made me laugh. [:D] Magazines offer one free magazine all the time to try to get people to subscribe. Its meant as an introduction to the magazine and it shows you what it has to offer before you subscribe. Trying to get a free issue to a magazine that you all ready know about is not what MR is trying to promote. Magazines cost money, go buy one instead of trying to get it for free. I think MR just offers free stuff only after you PAY for the subscription now, I haven’t seen the free issue card for a long time now and that was in a Athearn kit I bought. They probably got sick of sending out free issues to people that clearly had no interest in subscribing.[:0]

Sounds like the old bait and switch to me…[8]

Now I see MR is giving away a Train Show ticket if you subscribe or renew your subscription…Lets see now…

Great Western and Atlantic Train Show

Interesting…The closest show to me is FT.Wayne Indiana and some states don’t have any shows!!! How is that free train show ticket deal going to be fair to one and all?

Sigh…This really saddens my heart to see MR endorse such a deal.[:(][:(]

Worst this is the new name of the former Great American Train Shows!!!

I received a Classic Trains free issue card at the begining of the year, sent it in and got the free issue in about 1 1/2 weeks and then paid for a full year. If it has Kalmbach’s address on it the it is legit.

Happy Railroading.[swg][swg]

And thats the way it should be…[:D]
But,why did it take so long for you to get a free copy?

Something I have noticed about MR subscription prices is the following. If you are a current subscriber or buy the magazine off the rack at your LHS the 1 year price is $39.95. If you look around at the news stand and find an MR the subscription card more than likely has a price of $29.95. My feeling is that they have “hooked” the people who are already in the hobby and/or are subscribers and can get the higher price. The “newbie” reader gets his at a newstand and figures $29.95 for a year and sends in the money. When renewal time comes he gets hit for $39.95 and may not remember what his original cost was but vaguely remembers “30-something” and sends in the $39.95. Is this “bait and switch” or just clever marketing? I don’t know but I do know I use the newstand subscription cards. Just my two cents worth…
