Is this a different Bikefest than the one around Daytona or am I thinking of something else?? Good to hear that Deb is doing better and I think most or some of us have fit into the nasty kid bit at one time or another.

Grubby-Boy and all this time I thought IMHO meant I am modeling in HO.

It was worth it wasn’t it??

Ken

The Meijer stores have gotten much better and they had to if they wanted to compete with Wal-Mart and Meijer is big in Mich but they are only in the top parts of OH and IN.
I am planning to see Lou tommorrow and as far as I know he hasn’t had surgery yet but will be very soon, maybe Mon or Tue.

Matt-That rootbeer float was so good the other day I think I will have another, thank you

Got a little done on the benchwork today since it is raining and nasty outside and they say we are suppose to get 5-9 inches of that white stuff. I don’t think it will happen because the ground is too warm,I hope and if we do that means some more benchwork tomm

Duke- Daytona was March 7 thru the 16th. Bikeweek. Here in Leesberg, it is Bikefest .
Only 3 days. They expect over 150thousand bikers. Hotels/motels etc. have been sold out fro months. Our ABATE unit has a campground site with controlled entrances and exits. All bikes and riders are numbered with plastic bands. If the bike and riders #'s don’t agree they don’t leave. And there is 24 hour guard duty. No Drugs, No Guns, No Attitudes. Have fun.

Jim- Still can’t find that [censored] box car. Moved couple hundred lbs. of Deb’s stuff. Will send you dr. bill for sore back.
Only other possibility is I gave it to a friend of mine in trade. He has lost both legs below knees from diabetes. I shall have to look again and if cannot find it, go see him. Heck, I’m overdue to visit anyway. Havent been over in 2 weeks.

That is a good number of bikes for a 3 day event. I have gone to Americade 3 times, Honda Hoot once and this last time at Americade things have changed some. The police didn’t crack down on the noise like I saw in the past and there were more Colors then I remember so I think the next big rally will be the Hoot again now that they have moved it to Knoxville,Tn. I like the No Drugs,No Guns, and Attitudes part because it is all about having fun. Have you set up a booth or are you watching only??

Talk to you later

Duke

I see we have someone looking in the window. Don’t just stand out there come on in and sit a spell you can’t go wrong and have a drink of your choice on me.

Hey Guys,
I hate to interrupt, but can anyone tell me of a good web site to aquire a brass bell, for my “Big Boy.” It crawled off to some place, and I can’t find it. Since there are no local hobby shops in my part of the country, this is kind of important. I have a few other brass items that I’d like to pick up as well, like horns and such. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx,
Bill

Matt, thanks for tip on PC fan, I will try that the next time…this one was really shot though…
i left a tall brew on the table for you for the great tip…

Evening all -
Hope everyone’s doing just fine this evening. I got all moved in yesterday, and decided to come over last evening to see if my dad needed any help fixing the washer, only to discover that the drain line from the sink to the sewer line and busted inside ceiling of the basement. So, instead of fixing a washer (we were able to discover that it was caused by my mom putting too many throw rugs and towels in it), I helped the ‘old man’ rip out some pipe and put new inplace. But, in order to get the old out, we had to cut it out. After monkeying w/ a few hobby hacksaws, and a sabre saw, I went to my place and broke out the Dremmel and accessory kit, brought it back, and ‘BAM!’ had it off w/ in a hour. We started this about 5:30ish last night, but did not get it back to gether till 10ish. Did a teast, and found water leaking out from the floor boards, and after some more investigating, discovered yet another broken pipe inside the wall behind a cabinet in the kitchen. Well, we stopped there for the night, and I came back over at 9 this morning, w/ another piece of pipe, and had it fixed by noon.
Now, I’m back again, doing laundry and chatting it up with you all.
BTW, before I forget, thanks for all the prayers for my mom. I’m sure they’ll help out. I’m not exactly sure when she goes back, but I’ll let ya’ll know.
Till tomorrow,
JP

JimCG -
Emailed ya earlier. Let me know the info I asked for, and I’ll take care of the rest!

Hey, Flip![:)]

Flip, it looks like it was the Burlington Northern in about 1980 (before they joined up with the (where’s Teffy?) Santa Fe). For anyone else trying to find out about railroad mergers/where they went, etc. this is the site where I found Flip’s info:

http://www.spikesys.com/Trains/fmly_tre.html

As the author of the chart says, it’s mostly since 1900 up to the present lineups of roads.

HTH (Hope That Helps), Flip. Got to go wa***he dinner dishes, and then I’ll be back in here.[tup]

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

(Typer’s note: Well, I started part of this note this afternoon, but due to rail images being down I waited until now before posting so I could put my photos in here. I’ve added a few new replies while I was at it too. On to the post.)

Well, Think I’ll take a hot chocolate tonight; it’s a little chilly here today, about 45 for the high with a nasty wind, and make sure you put it on Matt’s tab.

Der, you bet it is a Bachmann Crossing! I plan on replacing it with separate cross bucks and a plaster crossing as part of my scenery rejuvenation process this summer.

Cat Tom, actually my layout never used to be this cluttered-although there always were a few tools-until I re did part of the track now there’s boxes of Blue box cars, scenery materials, junk, and countless other things there! Once I get the scenery rebuild though hopefully that will go away. Due to my layout being kind of an island, I plan on putting a few tall hills in the middle of my layout, and trees and such to kind of separate the two halves of the layout. We’ll have to see how it comes out.

I finally got to go over to another modeler’s house that I found here in Reedsburg. He’s really got a neat layout, simple but nice. It’s nice to finally know another modeler in the area.

Well, I’m glad everyone liked the pictures yesterday, and due to unanimous feelings, I’ve got more to share.

Last night I got wind from a friend that there might me a special engine up at Appleton, and so I went to take a look. Sure enough this engine was there, waiting coming from the Wisconsin Central now CN interchange in Appleton:

It was dusk and the light wasn’t great but I still got a shot of it. Apparently the WSOR purchased the engine. They had a little rebuilding done at a shop in Northern Minnesota, and it’s being shipped in primer only to be painted by the WSOR’s forces at Horicon. The ARK will pick

JP- Good luck in your new abode. Does plumbing help you in MRRing?
Prayers and best wishes for Mom.

Duke-Did not set up as Deb unable to use rt. hand as needed. Fingers still won’t obey.
Neck still swollen. Main street so crowded B-I-L told her not to go for fear of being jostled and getting hurt. He, being 6 ft.197 lbs. of muscle had no problem. He,tho a Christian, takes no s— and no prisoners. Gator Harley opened up their new 2 storey edifice, complete with cafe. Venders in parking lot, Bikers were parking their bikes in the median of st.rd. 441 to get into the place. Some places, not all, forbid colors in the Daytona area. Not even ABATE logos. Here its wide open. Just behave.

Flip

Noah- I[bow][bow][^] to your endeavors. Still wish I had some of your talent. May you be as sucessful in your future as with your modeling skills.
Best wishes,
Flip

Good Evenin’ Everybody,
It’s a good weekend so far. The weather is a bit squirrelly, but we’ll deal with it. Yesterday was serious thunderstorms and lots of wind. We’ve got one good sized tree out front that broke about 30’ up in the air. It didn’t break all the way, so a very big piece of tree is just hanging there at this point. Since, as far as I’m concerned, chainsaws and climbing trees don’t mix, I believe I’ll call somebody the first of the week. Once it’s on the ground I can handle it Ok, but I’m not going up after it.

Once the storms blew out, the temperature started dropping. We’re supposed to be down around freezing tonight. So we got out late this afternoon and cut a bunch of tulips and other stuff and brought them inside and covered up the veggies that are already in the ground.

Today was Spring cleaning day. All three of us turned to and got most of it done. There is a little bit left to finish, but not much. It’s another thing that’s nice to have done, or at this point, nearly so.

The lt. mountain is also nearly finished. All that’s lacking is to dirty it up just a little. It will get a little smoke staining on the top of the boiler and cab, and a little dirt on the drivers and trucks. It will be my cleanest locomotive, but the Southern really kept their passenger power clean. I’m ready to get it done and installed on the layout.

William north, welcome to the coffee shop. It’s a nice place, hope you enjoy it. I think either Precision Scale or Cal Scale would be a good source for brass detailing pieces. Cal Scale is a part of Bowser, so you should be able to access the Cal Scale line through Bowser’s web site. I’ve ordered from both of them and been very pleased.

Ken, Higher Order, I like that. Soldering feeders to busses is not one of my favorite parts of model railroading. A word to the wise, don’t wear shorts while doing this.

Noah, the crossing looks good. It’s nice to see that gorgeous transfer cab earning it’s

Good evening, Chloe - I’ll have a pint, since Matt’s buying. And can we have a basket of pretzels over at the table with ArkJim and Paul. And I see WIlliam North is back in - ask him to join us!

Actually, doing that (last time I used Word, a while ago) is done by the grammar checker - which if you have it turned on, will drive you even more buggy very quickly! When I was going through grad school, I was typing a paper in following the established style for my field, and Word kept griping about my using ‘passive voice’ and a few other things…[tdn][:(!] One reason I never got around to buying or using Word.

Also loved your joke. It also reminded me of one choir director we had in a previous church choir. And good idea not to go up after that branch on your tree. If the cats want to go take it down, let them - they have the claws to get up there.[;)]

***, I thought Ed was on some trip! Just didn’t remember exactly where or for what (other than it wasn’t to his daughter’s, since I knew they’d come back from that trip a bit back). Glad Ed posted and filled us in.[:)] Hey, wow - Ed’s getting two LHS trips in the same quarter! [tup]

Flip - sounds good on Deb’s continuing progress.
If you and the rest of you guys keep talking about the train channel, I may end up getting cable (or is that channel only available on satellite?). Of course, if I do that, that takes time away from working on my layout, so… tradeoffs. Hmmm.

Matt, your dad’s not planting rice, is he? [swg] Sounds like your area may be getting as much rain as some areas over on this side of the pond. As for your wheelsets, have you been leaving

Good Saturday Evening All [:)]

This has been a rough week. I worked overtime about 3 nights and had an early morning doctor’s appointment on Friday. My sleep is all messed up. I usually only get 4 to 5 hours anyway, but this week more like 2 to 3. [:(]

I am just not able to keep up with the shop this week. However, I always pray for everyone in the coffee shop that has requested prayer. God knows each and everyone and their needs.

Well I got busted for my Frisco 4 8 4 photo. One of the engineers from the magazine forum caught it. It seems like the first heaveyweight car has derailed. lol [B)] [8] [:(] [;)]

Check out my thread in the mag forum about Railfanning Photo Fun. You just never know what you might see in a railfanning photo. [:0] [:p]

Noah [8D]

Great work there buddy. Keep it up.

High and Dry on the ARK, a possible new motto for the ARK [:D]

Everyone [:)]

Be careful lifting those heavy boxcars. You know there is a hugh weight difference between Nvisible and HO. [;)] [:D]

If anyone needs any doctor bills I will be more than happy to share. [}:)] [;)]

Best Wishes to All, and to All a Good Night. [:)]

Evening All

Welcome Bill. I’m sorry that I didn’t welcome you earlier; I guess that I missed your post. What scale is your Big Boy? Also Who made it?

It’s been a said day here. My good friend and working partner and puter garu is leaving for Denver next week. As a going away party we went out to my son’s ranch and spent the day shooting. We all had a ball and Gary and I ended the day with a mad minuet. All in all a good day. One thing about his going is that he may get back into MRRing.

Well I’ve got to go to work tomorrow. That means a 4am wake up.
Good Night everyone.

Paul

“ The Superior Route “

Tom,
Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the tip. I’m on the way there now.

Afew years ago I build a home In the northern part of lower Michigan. It had a trail running through the property, (from one road to an other,) which has become one of the driveways into my parking area. This is a problem, because I get dirt bikers, and snow mobelers thinking it’s one of the many trails through the woods up here.

I just left my wood shop where I made a new sign, from plywood, with a yellow background, and black letters. I’m trying to keep it light, but get my point across, so it says, -

KEEP OUT
Trespassers
will be
VIOLATED

hope it works.
Later, Bill

I’m leaving now. Don’t want well see above. [;)]

Hey guys,

While I was saying thanks for the welcome to Tom a couple more welcomed me, so thanks to you guys too.

It’s an older IHC, HO scale. I got it from an older friend of mine, who gave it, and a number of others to me. He was in his 90’s, and called me to tell me that the doctors gave him two weeks to live. He knew that I was engrossed in HO scale model railroading, and asked me to take care of them for him. The hobby lost a great guy, his name was Charlie Glasco. A super human being. He fooled them again. He lasted almost 2 months. While relaxing in his easy chair, and gabbing with family, he closed his eyes and dozed off, never to wake up again. I guess God takes care of the really good guys.

Sorry to be so down, but he was known in the hobby, and maybe some of his friends read this forum.

Later,
Bill

Ok,heres a moral question for you.
[:D]
If a lawyer and an I.R.S. agent were drowning and you could only save one
[:-^]
would you have lunch or read the paper?
[?]

Bill- What can one say? Condolances to his family and to you .No matter the age, it is always hard to lose a friend. Draw up a chair and have a drink to toast his final rest. As a friend, he would not have you grieve.
Heck of a way to welcome you to the club. If you have been reading previous pages you know this is a family group and you are in the family.
