THE FLAT WHEEL DINER AND COFFEE SHOP, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER

Well, we received our first good snowfall last night: 12 inches in the front yard; less in the driveway because the residual warmth in the concrete melted some of it. I did not check the depth in the backyard, but when the dog we are sitting came back in, she had snow on her lower body.

We expect more snow a little later in the week.

Good Monday morning everyone. We are starting out this morning with a temp of 64 degrees, going for a high in the mid to upper 70s. Then rain coming in after midnight.

I hope everyone had a very good Sunday. Sarah and I did go out, and she bought me a couple of early Christmas presents. She had to have me along, because I needed to try them on, to make sure sleeves and upper portion fit (new jacket).

Coffee and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: the usual bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, etc.

Everyone have a good morning, if anyone has any meal requests for today, let me know, please, take care and I’ll see you all later.

Good morning from South Carolina, home of the USC Gamecocks. Ahem! 48 and clear 20 minutes after sunrise, headed for partly clear and 75.

Paula, I think I would like some Chief Boyardi spaghetti and meatballs if we have any in stock. Just have a taste for them this morning.

My weird way of holding the mouse has resulted in a weird type of carpal tunnel symptoms in the middle and third finger of my right hand. Makes doing practically everything interesting, including typing. We shall have to wait and see how it all works out.

Everyone have a great day and stay safe

…47 years ago today…{about noon}, Pres. Kennedy was…assasinated.

This morning…we have warm {for this area}, temps., and some rain this morning. 60’s overnight.

Now the travel will pick up for the looming holiday…Hope Amtrak can do their part. No groping there.

Good morning all.

Happy Turkey Week from the heartland of America[dinner]! I hope that all your Thanksgiving celebrations are happy and merry.

It is a breezy day here in western Indiana. Temps are in the low to mid 50’s.

Our Ag. Class is selling beef jerky for a fundraiser. If we sell enough, we get to go to a local steak house.

Have a good day all!

Tom, that sounds like an excellent idea. I’ve opened several cans of Chef Boyardee Spaghetti & Meatballs, added some extra seasonings, and fixed a huge bowl of garden salad to with the sghetti, along with some Italian bread slices that are lightly browned.

Quentin, I remember that day very well. I was in 5th grade classroom, and we were watching our TV Spanish class. Someone came to the classroom door and called our teacher out to the hall. Teacher came back in, and turned the TV to the local station, and we forgot all about Spanish lessons. The rest of the afternoon was spent watching history and the assasination of a President take place. That day, was not a very good day for my Mama: it was her birthday, and she had had to go to the oral surgeon, to have her teeth pulled, to get dentures. Needless to say, it was not a good, or Happy Birthday for her that year.

Checked the turkey thawing process, and the turkeys for Thursday are still pretty well frozen solid (may have to raise t

I was in typing class. We had students crying and literally staggering around, and they let us come home early. My sis in law’s birthday too, and one she will remember always.

Quentin, I, too, remember the day well. I was in the IC station in Wesson, Mississippi, sitting on the agent’s window desk and talking with the agent and and another man who frequented the station.

I also remember the day that Jack Ruby shot Lee Oswald. I was in Monticello, Miss., and ate lunch at the home of one of the members of the church there. Her husband was unable to go out because he had had a stroke, and when we arrived at the house, he told us of what he had seen on television just a little while before.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone. Rainy, with a temp of 62 degrees this morning, will drop down a little bit, so our official “high” today, around 4 p.m., will be in the mid 50s. The rain is supposed to be out of here by mid to late morning. So far, the official total is 1/4" of rain.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Everything from yesterday has been cleared from the serving station, and it has been cleaned, and is reset for breakfast.

Well, we had another field fire here in the Metro area yesterday afternoon. Even with the little bit of rain we’ve gotten this past week, trees, grass, weeds are still extremely dry. And it was quite breezy/windy yesterday afternoon and evening.

Everyone have a good morning, and I’ll see you all sometime later, after I get through with Produce and the Bread Truck.

This is a strong La Nina year, so we are going to have a bad winter out here on the coast. They should have had the Winter Olympics in Vancouver this year!

We are in the midst of an “Arctic outflow”, and it is -10C (14F) this morning. Yesterday we had snow, and a high of -4C (25F). More snow on Thursday, and then our rain should be back.

I need a lot of coffee this morning!

Good morning all!

What a fine morning it is here in western Indiana. We got one heck of a storm last night that dumped rain all across the region. I hope that the burn ban will be lifted soon.

Have a good day all!

I forgot to add these in my last post, but here are a few rail fanning pics. I’ve taken lately.

Produce and Bread truck both arrived this morning (not at the same time, though), and made it back home. Rain had already moved out, but with a very good breeze out, we decided to have the Produce taken inside when it came. And that’s what we did. Waited in the nice warm gym afterwards, for the Bread Truck to come.

Here is the menu for this afternoon and evening:

  1. Tacos, burritos, Spanish rice, chimichangas, enchiladas.

  2. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers w/fries and tossed salad.

I thought maybe everyone wouldn’t want our usual large meals, saving room for Turkey Day and all the trimmings.

Current temp is in the mid 50s, with plenty of sunshine, and very breezy conditions out. Everyone enjoy your afternoon and evening, take care, and I’ll hopefully see you all either later this evening, or at least in the morning.

Well, I think I’m recovered from the weekend - it was busy, to be sure.

Next time on the rails if for our Elf Trains on Black Friday - should be interesting as my crew isn’t exactly well-seasoned and we’ll have a ton of people on the two trips. It’s a benefit, with kids riding free and adults riding for just $5, so a lot of folks will be on board for both trips.

The worst part will be night ops - something we don’t do a lot of in the first place, so safety will be at the top of our list (not that it isn’t usually, but you have to be just that much more careful in the dark).

Cheeseburger sounds good, then it’s off to a meeting.

Good Wednesday morning everyone. Very chilly 34 degrees here in Louisville this morning. Cant’ remember what the predicted high is for today, but doubt it’ll be too far into the 50s. More rain coming in for this afternoon/tonight. We may even see some snow flurries(?) tomorrow and Friday.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Regular breakfast menu selections are on the serving station.

Not too sure you all will see much of me in here the rest of the day. I’ll be in the kitchen (here at home), starting the cooking for tomorrow. Will be concentrating on the side dishes today, and will put the turkey bird in the oven in the morning.

For those of you who will be leaving today for your Thanksgiving travel destinations, please be safe, and we’ll see you when you get back.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!

Thanks for the email CW. I will try to pop in here a bit more from time to time.

Cold, frost, and flurries are the order of the day…along with preps for the holiday season. Had a friend “stumble” into a nasty nest of acronyms on Sunday: TSA, FBI, DCSD, CNRRPD…looked scary but turned out ok for him. Back to lurking for a while…
