THE FLAT WHEEL DINER AND COFFEE SHOP, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER

Well, our early morning start today, produced no deer in the yard. I actually think we might be on a “path” they use when crossing this area. They do establish certain ways to go thru an area at certain times of a season…But this is just a bit unusual, we’re a housing division built around a golf course, and it just seems strange to see deer amongst us.

A dry morning…and overcast. Lo 40s’ now. Not sure what the prediction for this afternoon is.

Quentin, when I was working, I had to drive past a rather large golf course surrounded by numerous large and expensive houses. It was not unusual to find deer, foxes or wild turkeys crossing the roads going through the subdivisions. Locally, we had a bear turn up inside the city limits recently. Animals turn up in the most unexpected places.

matt had fun bowling today.he got a spare.a girl in his group came close to getting a turkey(3 strikes in a row).tonight is friday.got my container for work.going to be in the 20’s tonight.

Good evening. I finally made it in here. The only thing my meeting produced this afternoon, was giving me a royal headache. After I finally got home, I went to bed, to sleep off the headache. Feeling much better now. Everyone take care, and I’ll see you all in the morning.

…we’re so populated now, the deer don’t have much free running space of their own anymore.

Good Friday morning everyone. Mostly cloudy skies and a temp of about 44 degrees this morning, at 6:13. Supposed to get up to the upper 50s, possibly 60 degrees for us today.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: doughnuts, danish, bear claws and bagels assortment.

Not much going on this morning, except I seem to have awakened with an appetite. Think I’ll fix myself a plate, and refill my coffee mug. Everyone have a very good morning, and I’ll be around here somewhere.

A bearclaw and some tea will be good - but will have to be on the road. Off the the railroad this weekend for the ‘Polar Express.’

While I’m working an unrelated local holiday trip Saturday afternoon, the rest of my weekend will be in the station as the Stationmaster - keeping the passengers straight and working out any problems that may occur.

All of our trips (and we added some this year) are sold out again - which means some 12,000 people will experience the magic by the time the last train pulls back into the station.

Gotta finish packing.

Larry, have a good and safe weekend on the Polar Express.

We have a current temp of 49 degrees, and clouds. No sunshine. Just a dreary day out.

Here is our Friday Fish Fry menu:

Good Saturday morning everyone. 39 degrees here in Louisville this morning.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning:

turkey bacon, pork sausage patties and links, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, country fried steaks, various cereals including grits and oatmeal, toast. A little something for everyone, including bagels and bear claws.

I hope everyone has a great day. Will probably take the turkeys out of the freezer, to start the thawing process for Thursday. Maybe I can get most of the menu cooked and stored in the fridge Wednesday, so I can hopefully watch the parades Thursday morning, especially the Macy’s Santa Claus parade!

Take care whatever you’ll be doing today, and I’ll see you all back here this evening for our pizza fest.

Think I will have crab on toast! [|(]

I am not sure why I feel that way this morning. Maybe has to do with the weather and the fact that it will go straight downhill from today on. Blah.

However, I am excited! We get to maul 2 chickens for supper. Boss Hen and Mudchicken will be here sometime later today as they “fly” thru on their annual Thanksgiving road trip. Must sharpen my pencil and get some questions ready for Sir C. Probably won’t understand the answers since he speaks in “surveyese”, but he is so pleasant and funny about it, I just enjoy listening & watching.

Driver doesn’t seem to have any problems. Must be a “guy” thing.

Boss Hen is always gracious and understandable, so must just be me…

Naw…

Put some [pi] in the fridge. Will have it tomorrow for breakfast! Yum!

Well Jen it’s not much better here, although, I don’t think we’re expecting any real downside this weekend. Upper 30’s this morning.

So…Since I got this slow starting computer going now…I’ll head out to the family room to continue our morning paper.

Noted our local college will be assisting “Progressiver Rail” in it’s start up of business here…Not sure just what all…Probably personnel.

Article said yesterday, P R expects to get started with operations here by next april. That must mean some fast action at the plant to get things / changes needed. Previous info indicated 50 million will be spent to get started.

I certainly like the idea of producing rail products, whatever it is to be, engines, railcars, repairs of both or what ever…is a good thing for the railfan interests, and of course any city needs new businesses.

afternoon

had an early start to deshler.csx was busy for awhile.S 386 had alot of old name grain hoppers heading east.q 136 had a walgreens trailer on it.Cw thanks for the pizza.Modelcar the new intermodal terminal in North baltimore is already having a positive affect in the area and they haven’t moved a trailer yet.

Joe…any good RR news is good news for fans. Means railroading will be getting stronger, even though different in some ways.

Greetings from Iowa! I finally got out for about an hour of train watching this afternoon, even though I knew it might be alittle slow due to the Rochelle diamond replacement. However, I did manage to catch one eastbound coal train:

Yep, that’s the only train I saw, but the reason was more than just Rochelle, as I discovered as soon as I got down there. One of the main lines was shut down due to this:

Sorry for not waiting for it to come out from under the bridge, but I had to leave just as it got that far, and I don’t think they were going much farther anyway, as the red boards were positioned just another 100 yards to the right.

Evening all…

Nice quiet day on the road today, if one can call flying through Washington DC traffic quiet. Left Anheuser Busch last night, scale said 79,800 gross weight, after a trip back to the dock to have product removed, and with full fuel tanks. Should be screaming by Tom’s place just after church time tomorrow morning on my way down.

Today must have been the day for moving oversize loads in Pennsylvania, saw no less than six of them in the Scranton area, one even had a pusher truck behind helping him up the grades. Wish I could have grabbed a shot, but was a little busy driving…

As for deer, lot of hunters already getting their deer, but there is not much left of one when you hit it at 65mph with a vehicle…

Now that I’ve ruined everybody’s appetite, will take pizza, then to the sleeper to battle a cold…

Good Sunday morning, everyone. Randy, good to see you in! And you didn’t spoil my appetite: I’m actually hungry this morning (maybe because I didn’t have my bedtime bowl of cereal last night). I would love to have some venison.

Brian, it’s good to see you come by, especially since we rarely see you in here anymore. Thanks for posting your pics in here: you got some very, very good shots there!

51 degrees and partly cloudy here in Louisville this morning. Going for a high in the mid to upper 60s today.

Coffee and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: oatmeal, toast, and omelettes (Denver, southwest, cheese)

Everyone have a good morning, enjoy whatever you’ll be doing this morning, and see you all later.

locomutt - Thank you for the warm email. It was greatly appreciated.

We’re having a beautiful, sunshiny afternoon, w/a good breeze. After a bit, Sarah and I are going to get out and enjoy it. Yes, we’re leaving Walt home this time!
