Train Trivia 10/15/05 (ANSWERED)

In 1950 which of these railroads had the most miles of track?

  1. UP 9,720
  2. SP 12,441
  3. NYC 10,727
  4. ATSF 13,073

ATSF

ATSF

ATSF I am 99.9% sure. I leave the .1 percent out in order to say i was not completely wrong

Just to make it an (iron) horse race, I’ll guess espee.

ATSF.

What was it again? Atchison Tobasco & Santa Fe?

Uhhh, UP???

…This one I haven’t researched…but feel sure it has to be Santa Fe…

I suspect that SP had more miles, and that of the four mentioned, UP was dead last.

There are probably many people who would be surprised to find out how small UP was before it bought out MP (which if I remember correctly was larger than UP), in terms of miles of track.

I will agree that SP was probably the largest. It seems like SP was the largest railroad in 1967.

SP,…but I have a sneaking suspicion it’s NYC…[}:)][%-)]

Are we talking track miles or route miles? For track miles I would go NYC. Maybe even route miles for them. UP was had the lowest route miles, and my WAG is SP had more than Santa Fe.

Track miles!

Of course!

NYC, without a doubt.

those are my picks [:D][:D]

SP for route miles and NYC for track miles

I’ll guess NYC for miles of track and SP for route miles.

I would have to say ATSF

Gotta go with route miles.
ATSF, SP and then NYC.
CMSP&P and PRR came next.
