Do any of you have any experience using Tru-Scale track and DCC? I am wanting to know if anyone has had any problems with the switches and cross overs, when it comes to implementing DCC. Did you have to do any major modifications, like the article “Making An Older Switch DCC Friendly” suggested? Any help would be appreciated!
We used that old Tru-Scale track all the time at the club. It’s NOT DCC friendly but we only had a few issues with it. If you want to make it DCC friendly you can visit:
It has been a while since I looked at TruScale track but as I recall there are several different versions of their switches and the one I recall had the frog switched by the built in switch mechanism. I’d be surprised if some level of modification were not required.
yah, truscale had the switchable frogs that moved with the points, kinda the old tinplate trick. Other versions were your standard turnout design, same rules apply when DCCing your turnouts.
Thank you for the reply. I have checked out the website and will try some of it’s suggestions.
Thanks for your reply. I will check out your website and blog.
Thanks for the reply.
There is a prototype http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swingnose_crossing - http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1004204
Movable frogs were not at all uncommon on prototype turnouts and very sharp-angled diamond crossings. I have even seen photos of them on the 2-foot gauge Bridgeton & Saco River!
