Lovely model! Could do with even more smoke (but at what point does it become a health hazard?).
Nice to see the smoke unit in operation. Too bad it’s not black!
Though the whistle sounds pretty weak or tinny.
Any way to improve that aspect?
Love the sound and smoke effects, looks like a beautiful engine. One question : why the large “gap” between tender and locomotive, I assume the prototype was closer coupled?
Enjoyed the scenery on your lay out too!
Hi guys , nice model , altough I am more in modern diesels . Could I make a suggestion for your videos ?? Try to make the time for the captions , at the bottom part of the screen a little longer in time , so I can read them more easily . I think that I am not the only one who need more time , I hope . you know , old age , slower reading capacity and all . 8-))
Very nice. Love the realistic smoke and sound.
A very pretty loco, but not nearly as beautiful as my Broadway Ltd. Paragon 2 J1e #5344 Hudson - now that’s a classic
I would like to know how come the price tag on this HO-scale is the same as there O-scale Railking. The price on all these models are getting out of hand. Dam how much would they be if the workers in China had a Union. With a price tag of $449. list I will pass on it. As far as the unit goes the smoke and sound is weak. I have one Broadway limited Pargon 2 at half the price and it works great . Great slow speed and tons of smoke and the sound is second to none. Any problem you have with Broadway limited they will fix if for 2 years FREE Sorry folks but i call it the way i see it.
The sounds are not very loud. Would be nice to see and hear it operate in person. Sounds seemed hollow.
Seems like the smoke residue would gum up the track?
Dana:
I saw the review in the print magazine and the image of the rear of the tender. Did the NYC use the same font for the numbers on the tender and cab as Union Pacific uses? It looks awfully similar.
Fantastic model, I love these last steamers. wish I could afford one.
I thought the sound and the bell could be louder,
otherwise the engine with the smoke and the passenger cars
look great.
Why aren’t locos from the west, other than Union Pacific, Southern Pacific offered? It would be nice to see Western Pacific, Northern Pacific,Spokane Portland and Seattle, Great Northern and others offered. I admit seeing eastern trains all the time, turns me off.
l like the train ver much and that there is smoke also
I have 5 MTH engines and they all work very well. Not only do they look and sound good they track well…something that can’t be said for all the imports. Thanks MTH for great and inovative products!
A nice model, indeed, if it weren´t for that unprototypical gap between loco and tender. MTH should take a look at Fleischmann and Roco, how they solve this issue and still be able to negotiate radii of 15 "!
I agree with the jack rabbit start and the rather poor rendition of the whistle. Still, she looks great pulling those lightweight cars. How about a run-by at speed next time? These were fast passenger engines!
I was set to perchase one of these engins in a few day, but after watching the video from MRR, I think that I’ll wait to see what BLI has. I own a few of the the BLI’s and have never been dissapionted with them. I think from the sound coming from the MRR’s video my 2002 Hudson has a better system. And the space between the local and the tender is way to much to be happy with… A 44inc radii???
Hi Keith,
Regarding your question: No the NYC did not use the same font as the Union Pacific on its steam locomotive tenders. The MTH model has the correct font for the New York Central.
Thanks for reading Model Railroader.

On a second note that I did not mention in my previous post. Keep it up MTH. I own several models from this company in “O” and “HO” scale and I have found them to be quite captivating. Not only by myself but my grand children as well find the senses delighted by these beautiful models. Remember that the children of today rely only on verbal and usually lifeless hulks in museums to put the picture in perspective. Models such as these present something their imaginations can build on.
WOW!!! as a modeler from the fifty’s on that’s all I can say. I must say to the detractors of this model, patience people, it will only get better. From the days of wooden and paper pressed relief kits to now the hobby has only improved. Sometimes the technology has outpaced some of us “Old timers”. Wayback when we could only imagine in our heads the sounds and visuals coming from our models. So again I say WOW!!! keep up the good work MRR it’s been a great many years that you have spurred the hobby onward.
