Video: MTH Electric Trains HO Dreyfuss Hudson

Very cool train! I was looking at it and wondering how nice one of these would look on my layout, then I realized that my radius was probably too small. What made me dream was seeing the smoke rising from behind the trees…that was really cool.

I think MTH is over rated and over priced. For a company that is supposed to be producing great quality scale models, the distance between the engine and the tender looks grotesque and the jerky start in the station shot leave a lot to be desired. I like the NYC and the Dreyfuss styling, but I will continue to stick with BLI locos.

I feel these units are over priced compared compared to the Paragon 2 units, which have much better sound and slow speeds. I have 3 Paragon 2 units and really feel they operate better than the MTH for 1/2 the price.

Over rated, over priced. BLI and Paragon right price better operationand better detail. Sorry MTH you need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

I will not buy any MTH product because they have set back DCC sound and operation by their legal action against their competitors. Basic operating actions are universal and should not be protected nor owned. Now we have to buy replacement chips to regain functions which would have been included without the suits. I agree with most of the other comments about this locomotive.

Beautiful locomotive, but there is something not quite right about the Box-Pock drivers and I can’t quite accurately put my finger on it; the larger driver “holes” seem too big especially when comparing the MR magazine review pix with a builder’s or in service photo or loco plans. Drivers stand out way too much, perhaps the result of not painting the driver rims; or is the driver paint too light? Striping on the tender is too narrow. I’m thinking that narrow stripes were not applied until the PT tenders replaced the original J-3a tenders about 1943-1944. And the MTH ad showing locos with the Scullin drivers: the Scullin locos had the larger and light weight side and main rods. Oh, well, what an interesting and vibrant railroad now long gone. Thanks to MTH for a neat locomotive; I need one!

I bought one and it only worked 20 min.Problems with sound system and staying on the track.Beautiful loco with great sound system. Can do without the DCS stuff.Just DCC would be fine.Has been in their repair shop for almost three weeks.Nothing to date.

Perfect for a 1930’sand 1950’s layout

Wow! most of above comments must be from Bli. This is a great engine and runs super smooth. If you want a P2 engine go right ahead and pay more money for the P2 sound which are the same as the blueline sounds-I’ll stick to MTH that has unique sounds on this engine.
