Virtual Interchange Part II

Ok folks, I dont know if the orginal Virtual Interchange survived the Forum Change over to the new one after July 12, 2006.

Seeing the very good response to the thread “Freight Traffic” I am inspired to create a new slate where you can interchange freight loads from your layout (Built, Planning or under construction does not matter here.)

I ask that you offer your traffic information in two ways:

1- Outbound Loads offered and how many (Car type and number of loads per day)

2- Inbound Loads wanted or agreed to with another Forum Member (It’s best to start a small word document and copy/paste current weekly traffic info by “Railroad” so that you dont get confused.

I learned from the previous Part 1 of the Interchange that people were wondering whose railroad started and ended where for purposes of arranging bridge or through traffic between the east and west coasts of USA.

I also learned that we have had shipping involved to nearby ports for Members who are overseas.

It is nice to include industry name, location on your railroad and availible or needed cargos in your information it might encourage those who may not know how to “Operate” to participate.

Try to use Two Step or 4 Step operations such as Cattle Yard to Packing Plant and return (Mty or loaded) or…

Raw material to Processing to factory and return empty or with cargo for home road.

Try to keep it simple such as 10 boxcars per week and several loads coming and going. I realize that we will have some Members here who have large railroads and access to large numbers of industry, I ask that you feel just as fully participating with 1 industry or 100.

I guess I will start off:

The Falls Valley Railroad offers:

4 Loads of A&P Food Products in A&P Refridgerated Cars from our Cold Storage to be set out on the interchange track every evening before midnight. One car each of Eggs, Produce, Cheese and Beef all kinds.

The Falls V

I am interesting in joining this thread and participating in the “interchange game”, it sounds like a lot of fun. [tup]

I model the Norfolk Southern (NS) Piedmont Division in the areas near and around the Carolina’s, and Kansas City Southern (KCS) as a through freight only. Since KCS serves areas of Arkansas and Louisiana, and NS has links to Louisiana too we should be able to “bridge” shipments both ways. Before I offer to pickup or make shipments, please let me know if the Piedmont Division meets the criteria. [?]

Yea this could be pretty cool.

Well I model a Ficticious version of SP Oregon Division in modern times(SP was never bought by UP), On my railroad UP is a subsidary kinda like Cotton Belt and they work to gether cooperativly. So I run SP, UP, DRGW and CNW locos in their prototype paint scheams and numbering.

Southern Pacific(Oregon Division) Offers:

10 finished loads of lumber in Center beam and bulk head Flats, 3 loads of grass sead 3 day cfl Hoppers, 10 concreat loads in 2bay cfl cars and 3 loads of wood chips a day in greenvill trinity hoppers.(I forgot a couple industrial products.) 5-6 finished Paper Products in 60’ Hicube boxcars. 15 Raw timber loads on special 40ft bolkhead Flats.

Southern Pacific Wants(Oregon Division) wants:

4 loads Fresh and Frozen fruits in Fridgerated Boxcars, 3 loads of grain and wheat 3bay ctf hoppers, 2 loads of finished petroleum products in 20’000 galon tank cars and 10 loads of coal in coal vayours(for that new coal plant in coburg)

My SP Oregon divison runs from Portland to Kalamath Falls and East to Boise. SP Oregon divison is willing to run thrue trains up to Seatle and Down to Rosevill.

SilverSpike, what loads to you have to offer or need?

SPoregondivision, I think there are quite a few railroads for you to interchange with.

The Piedmont Division currently serves the following industries with loads to offer and needs (this is a partial list of all industries to get started):

Industries

Timber and Lumber

Originating

  • Logging timber operation

  • Timber log loads (4) and pulpwood loads (2)

  • Lumber mill industry

  • Woodchip loads (2) and lumber loads (4)

Returns

  • Logging timber operation and lumber mill

  • Empty pulpwood cars (2), logging cars (4), centerbeam cars (2), bulkhead cars (2)

Needs

  • Lumber Mill

  • Timber lo

Anyone need iron ore? Recently re-designed layout will be able to run 70 car ore trains. So theres plenty of ore to go round.

How is it going.
Well SP has the following:

  • 2 FBS (Center Beam) Loads
FBS need to be sent back empty

SP needs the following:

  • 2 wood chip loads for Paper plant

SP would like to establish a Special every day train with The Falls Valley Railroad moving Fresh and frozen Fruits and vegitables from east to west and visversa. SP is willing to share power and alow both SP and FVR to share power for the train specified above.

SP needs the following:

  • 4 loads A&P food products in A&P Refidgerated cars

  • 1 load of eggs, Corn and various produces

  • 2 loads of Cheese

  • 5 loads of finished Beef products
    SP has the following:

  • 3 loads of pallets

  • 2 loads of frozen seafood

  • 4 loads of Various grains

Ok, done.

If it is ok with you I will take your 4 loads of various grains as I have a Elevator and Feed Mill which I am developing a list for.

SilverSpike, SPoregondivision offers 2 Wood Chip loads that I could bridge if you want it, you both need to see what you can use and let me know.

I remember you from Part One, Welcome back!

If you would like, I can arrange shipping via River Barge to the Gulf Port to recieve 10 of your loads of Ore. If I remember correctly you are located overseas in Australia.

How long will it take for the Ore to arrive at the US? Once a month?

The layout I’m building is based in Arizona. I am in Australia but I do have interest in both American and Australian trains. Should be able to set up trackage agreements to get the ore to you.

Ridge Pacific Rail, along with some other short lines is shipping imported coal to power plants in 95 car trains…anyone interested? we got plenty more where that came from! we also have grain and cement too

KVR could handle more grain. On my layout that is.

GDRMCo the Railroad is in Arizona? That would be no problem, just a matter of finding connecting roads.

Basically.

My Glasgow&Tweed River Railroad can send out a flat car of logs to any non U.S. customers through the Chunnel, our U.S. customers must, unfortunately, be able to link up with the UP to get it out of our Sacramento office, our home office is in London

That will be no problem ModelTrainman, in Part One Shipping played an indirect role as needed.

What traffic do you have outbound and what traffic needs do you have for your industries?

I’ll need some coal for my steam locomotives, right now I only have the logs outbound to somebody!Any takers?

i can link up with the UP at Sacramento and they can send it to Arizona if you want!

Who are you sending the logs to? Hopefully not me, otherwise I would have to find a railroad that wants em and arrange for delivery =)

There is going to be alot of railroads across this thread arranging shipping and deliveries so try to maintain the integrety of the information by stating who to and who from!

Good Luck! And have a GREAT weekend!
