Your link appears to either be the wrong one or corrupted, Clifford. It doesn’t come up as a valid one. Would you repair it, please?

Do they respond to e-mails or phone calls?

How long have you been waiting for your order?

Within a reasonable length of time, you can call your credit card company and “dispute” the charge. They will credit your account and go after the dealer if they find he did not live up to the terms of the sale.

A lot of these small e-tailers actually have very little inventory. When you order from them, they go out and order from someone else. If their supplier doesn’t have the item, it might be quite a while before the company even gets its shipment, and even longer before it gets to you.

Some of these places are dishonest, and other are simply incompetent. Most, however, try to do a reasonable job. Hopefully, it’s just a supply chain thing, but there are remedies for the other cases, too. Good luck.

Try this: Rip-Off Reports re:E-ClecTech

They have not responded to e-mails and no phone number listed.

Business is not listed in yellow pages and the address is a home address.

The items I was ordering are no longer made by the company, so I thought the store had them listed because he had them in stock.

Also paid with check and direct to the person not the company which should have been my first clue.

Thank you for posting the link.

Not a problem. It was very easy to find.

If you paid by snail mail, report this to your local postal inspector’s office.

Can you say Mail Fraud? The Federales love these people.

After reading the comments posted by other unfortunate users, I was thinking the same thing.

But, has anyone ever had any luck with this? Somehow, I think of pretty much all government these days as a lethargic, basically incapable outfit. I’d be interested in hearing what experiences others have had in reporting these characters to “The Authorities.” Did you get your money back? Did the bad guys get locked up or fined? Or was this just another feeding frenzy for lawyers with no real results?

Whether or not others have had success shouldn’t be the deciding factor. If you do nothing, nothing will happen, that is a guarantee. However, if you do report them, then there may at least be a chance else they hit the next unsuspecting person(s). The investigation could find out where the mail was picked up, where the check was cashed, and if there is a pattern with this person. It all usually catches up with them sooner or later, someone’s just got to take the first step.

Some states have very effective consumer advocates, often as a division of the state’s attorney general’s office. Google should find a telephone number you can call.

When a similar thing happened to me a few years ago, I contacted some of the agencies mentioned in the very helpful website.

http://www.mindspring.com/~bookdealers/ripoff.html#canada

Although the front end reference says, Canada, this is because the situation I was involved in included parties in both Canada and the United States so there was a lot of ground to cover, but you will find plenty of references to US Government and consumer agencies that may be interested in your case - some, as in my situation felt that my experience was not really any of their concern while other’s lept out of the gate like fiends on blood trail.

I hope this can be of help to you too.

hey guys, maybe we need a “goon squad” where the closest member makes personal contact with suspected evil doers and checks them out. then when we are sure of what is going on, if there is indeed something wrong we can give them something to think about. oh well, just dreaming.

This from the shipping page of his web site…

Please make Checks out to: Michael J. Laramee (not e-clec-tech) and send them (along with a copy of your order form) to the address listed above.

would be a flag to me that he is not a registered business. a quick check of the florida business registry confirmed this as the business name did not show up. It is interesting that he does collect florida sales tax though.

Taxes: Currently, only residents of Florida (FL) incur a 7% sales tax on all orders.

Of course this from his site is the best…

We will not send out duplicate orders; and we will seek prosecution on any evidence of mail fraud.

If you have had problems with this guy you should contact the florida State Attourney General http://myfloridalegal.com/ These people love to go after problems like this

I’ll volunteer for my area.[:-,]

I’d volunteer, if there was anything around here.

Anyone live near Rio Grande hobbies (4nscales parent company) or Internethobbies bases? Rio Grande hobbies ripped me for 70 bucks (I ordered 3 decoders and my card was charged for them even though they were on back-order. 4 months later I get an E-mail saying my credit card number was invalid and a new one was needed. I told them I was already billed for them 4 months ago. They never replied after that). Not sure what’s with internet hobbies. I ordered a C30-7 from them a week ago and picked UPS ground. Should have been here a few days ago. I’ll give them another week.

Internethobbies.com in Brea, California, has been the subject of numerous complaints on these forums over the past year or so as being one of the most dishonest companies going. They charge your credit card as soon as the order is placed, they hardly ever have the items in stock, and getting a refund takes months.

After numerous phone calls and e-mails that resulted in nothing but stalling tactics and lies on their part, I had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and State Attorney General’s Consumer Protection people in order to get a refund.

Are you sure that’s not internet trains? Internet hobbies is in Pennsylvania.

Maybe they moved between now and then…

No, you’re probably right that it is a different company – similar names get confusing. The one in PA has never been the subject of complaints.
