what you think? some new weathered models
what you think? some new weathered models
Too much for my personal taste, however, very realistic.
Good thing we don’t all like the same things or all our layouts would look alike.
Keep up the good work.
Have fun,
Richard
Excellent work! I’ve seen boxcars cars in this condition a number of times. Take a photo of this outdoors at an upward angle and you’ll fool a lot of people into thinking it’s the prototype.
Just my opinion: For the purposes of “Selective Compression” it’s good to keep a realistic balance of weathering. A mix of cars with light to medium weathering and a few “Penn Central-style” rust buckets within a general freight car fleet (boxes, hoppers, reefers, flats, etc,.).
Looking good.
Great job I like it!! How’d ya do it?
The rust spots look really good to me. What are you using, oil paints? Perhaps the main paint surfaces could be a bit more grimy, the paint looks almost too clean for the rust.
all done with arcrylic paints and washes thanks for looking
more of the same car, ends and roof
Any chance you could talk about how you went about it? It looks like you maybe put on some darker brown areas then used some lighter rust colors around them?
Wow at first I thought it was the real deal . Which car manufacture are you using ?
Excellent, very realistic, strange to the naysayers, all railroad equipment does NOT look like it just came from the factory, and don’t a lot of MR’s strive for protoptypical realism, then weathering would be at the top of prototypical priorities.
I must add the best tip for weathering is: M O D E R A T I O N
Well done! I’d say you have the hang of it. I agree, though, that the upper left face that we see needs more dulling to the blue paint. The car’s lower door sill is quite a bit more deteriorated than the rest of the car, probably a bit too much. But your rust is really good.

Nicely done but why two posts??

One the best I have seen in awhile… a little heavy but not too over the top. [Y]
this is a athearn rtr box car
Excellent job! Looks great!
This model I am creating was in service for scrap paper pulp sevice,if you ever seen a prototype the cars are usually more rustyand beat up than this one. =^) I am working on a “how to” for this one and i will post it when I am finished. thanks for looking, check me out on youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/rockton160807 building 2000sq’ layout based on a prototype cheers Paul B
I really dont know how that happen? sorry for your inconvenience. =)
The car is too new for my era, but the weathering is just fantastic.
