[swg][swg][:D][:D][:D][8D] [banghead] [oops] So what is your favorite train movie and how many train movies can you name where a train or trains was a major part of the plot??
Two of my favorites are The great locomtive chase. 1954 by walt disney with Fess parker & jeff Hunter.based on true evnts in the American war between the states.
The Train. Burt lancaster 1964. A great WW II film. The big crash with steam locos was actual not models.
Some other train flicks. Bridge over the river Qui. 1954 with the Star wars actor.
The Cassandra crossing 1977 with Richard Harris Sophia Lorren.
The great train robbery 1970s I think with Sean Connery.
Von Ryans Express 1960s with Frank Sinatra.Sinatra a Lionel collector who loved to play with his trains.
And The fugitive with Harrison Ford 1993.The wreck was a pushed train.the locos were non powered.
Back to the future 3 .I love the train smashing the delorean.
OK what else is there???
Union Pacific (1939) Directed by Cecil B. DeMille. About the transcontental race to promintory point. Has various little sideplots, but is oozing steam and railroading.
or Tough Guys (1986) with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. But the main star is undoubtably the gorgeous SP4449.
“Emperor of the North” with Lee Marvin & Ernist Borgnine<sp?>. Great train pictures of GN & NP rolling stock through out.

Favorite train movies:
THE TRAIN
UNION PACIFIC
DENVER AND RIO GRANDE
TICKET TO TOMAHAWK
NIGHT PASSAGE
and the Grandaddy of them all–Buster Keaton’s silent masterpiece THE GENERAL
All of them are good, all of them are my favorites.

RunAway Train Great flick Its a must see!@
Carl…
1959, Kirk Douglas, Anthony Quinn, Carolyn Jones.
Last Train From Gun Hill.
It don’t get no better.
La Bete Humaine.
There are two great train sequences in How The West Was Won, both featuring George Peppard. The sequence with Richard Widmark about the building of the railroads was waaaaaaaay cool.[:D]
The Bridge on the River Kwai with the Star Wars actor?? LOL Of course you mean Sir Alec Guiness.
A couple of movies not mentioned were Murder on the Orient Express, and although not a train movie, per se, the train sequence in Shenandoah was memorable. And how could we forget Silver Streak?
Emperor of the North. Wait long enough on this thread, and it will win the contest here too. Always has, always will.
[bow][bow]Sir Alec giuness, yes, I drew a blank trying to think of his name.Theres some flicks here i have never heard of[B)]Runaway Train was a good one.I like the part where Rebeecca demornay is telling John voight and eric roberts(Julia Roberts brother)that the f unit is “An old A unit we have to walk thru it and the door is jammed”
And I Had forgotton about UNion Pacific with Stunning Barbara STanwyck. And I have never seen Emperor of the north.Gotta get it.
And Silver streak is the one where the f units crash into grande central Station??
And there was a movie about 1987 called the train killer about terrorist attacks on european railroads that helped lead to WW I.any body seen that one???
No one has mentioned a movie with William Shatner in it. It was funny although it is not supposed to be. I think it was called Disaster on the Coastliner or something like that. Some good shots of F-40PHs are in it. Another was Under Siege 2 - Dark Territory with Steven Segal.

Can’t say I have a favorite train movie, because every time I see a movie with a train in it, there’s something wrong. LOL. Like how in White Christmas they take the Super Chief from Florida to New York (!?!?!). ANd I think that was the CZ taking them from New York up to Maine. LOL.
Or the double stack going over the bridge in Ray.
–Randy
The Man in the Gray Flannel suit.
Watch the 45minutes or so - short, but great footage.
- Tough Guys starring SP 4449.
- The Silver Streak starring CB&Q 9900 (better known as the Pioneer Zephyr).

The Train - again.
Boxcar Bertha & This Property Is Condemned because they both “star” Reader RR 2-8-0 #1702!

I was surprised that nobody mentioned the train scene in The Getaway with Steve McQueen. I think it’s some ex-Southern Pacific cars that Amtrak picked up.
I’d vote for Silver Streak or Runaway Train.
