Real box cars full of grits to carry to all of my BUDDIES up Nawth. [;)] Three Rail Big Boy and Challenger. A train building out back for monster layout. [:D]
I think I’d buy a ocean-front house to put a new layout in. I’d also rent a old, beautiful Observation car for a few months and tour the country by rail. I’d sit on the rear platform with my feet up on the railing and watch the world go by. Joe
I think I’d go up a gauge to G, or 1 gauge live steam. Locate it on my grounds outside my chateau in France. Have my staff of french maids tend to it whilst I sip on a libation.
Okay, let’s get serious here: I’d purchase the Riverhead to Greenport section of the LIRR. I’d fully finance the restoration of G-5s #39 & #35 as well as the completion of K4s #1361 to “as built” condition (preWWII beauty treatment). I’d then start a wine & dinner train through the vinyards of the North Fork much like the Napa Valley has. I’d restore the turntable and servicing facilities at Greenport complete with water tank and wooden coaling tower.
My commute would be by ferry from my home on the shore of Deering Harbor on Shelter Island to the train station in Greenport adjacent to the ferry dock.
I’d look into having a basement installed under the house instead of the current crawl space. Its a pqin having to go across the yard to the “barn” to run my trains, especially when the weather is a bummer.
All my wishing is for naught, Georgia dropped out of Power Ball and now has Mega Millions. The Mrs. buys the tickets twice a week and the most winnings have been a whole $10. Needless to say she’s in the red.
Lets see, all of Lionel’s TMCC Diesels and Steamers in the in the roadnames I like, with a ton of freight and passenger cars to go along with them, all the premium sets, AtlasO’s engines and cars, add a ton more to my G scale and buy the 2 properties next to my house, and construct a very large structure that has the first level for all of my dream cars, and the second level all trains. Wow, that would be the life wouldn’t it!!!
Lets not forget buying my own Shortline RR, as well as plenty of houses so I can enjoy the views of some RR ROW, and some others at the shore for summer, and of course storing boats.
I would buy one of the few real GG-1’s languishing in the elements and rescue it. I would restore it to it’s original glory and I would build a small roundhouse type building on my new propery display it.
Then I would set about building a stupid huge three rail layout (like the one Mark Hart built and was featured in the Jan 2006 special issue of CTT) in my new fully climate controlled train shop next to the roundhouse.
Buckeye, that seems like a good idea. You could make even more money.
I guess the one post I had was not related to trains because I mentioned cars in it. Who would agree with me that they would treat themselves to cars from companies such as Audi, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Cadillac, Porsche, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Bentley, BMW, and Rolls Royce?
