whats in your passenger car train: heres mine

any of you that have a passenger train on your railroad, what cars do you have in it? on my ho scale model railroad the leelanau county railway i will have about 3 mdc harriman 60’ coaches, 2 60’ dining cars, 1 kitchen car(former us army kitchen car), 2 troop sleeper cars, and a total of about 7 mdc overland 50’ business cars, sleeper(cafe-coach on my line) and coaches.

I’ve got an ancient set of Mantua streamliners - baggage, 2 coaches, diner and observation. Here they are crossing the Pink Prarie behind an F7 A-B-A Milwaukee power plant:

I have two passenger trains. I have an Amtrak Superliner train. 2 85’ coach/baggage, 1 85’ dining car, 1 85’ sleeper, 1 85’ lounge car and 1 60’ MHC. My other pass. train is an Acela, 1 first class coach, 1 buisiness class coach and 1 cafeteria car. I need 3 more cars for the Acela to make it prototypical but cant bring myself to spend $25 a car.

I’ve got quite a few passenger trains as I model a commuter line primarily. I’ve got a few sets with Pullman Bi-Levels powered by P40s F7s and F40PHs. However, I do have a couple special ones, one is an excursion set I’m building a heavyweight set currently I’ve got two Walther’s Pullman 10-1-2 Sleepers, two Walthers Pullman Green coaches, a Walthers 36 seat diner and currently standing in for future released walthers products are an Athearn Pullman (standing in for a Walthers 6-3 Pullman sleeper) and an Athearn lounge observation (standing in for a Walthers Pullman Solarium) The entire set is pulled by a Spectrum USRA Heavy Mountain and is going to be re-lettered for my freelance road. Cheers! ~METRO

I have half a dozen Athearn BB heavyweight passenger cars. I have one baggage car, one RPO, one Pullman car, one diner, one coach, and one observation car (I also run them in this order). They’re pulled by a Spectrum Light Mountain. Everything is lettered for Union Pacific. I plan to eventually replace the cars with higher quality ones, possibly Walthers, but I will probably stick with the older style heavyweight cars. I like their appearance more than the newer streamlined cars. Since my layout is only 5’x9’, I only have room for one passenger train, so I probably won’t get get any passenger cars for any other railroad.

Here is a few of mine. At this point all Am track I think from the 70 era. I will added the biggest pain in the Caboose I have bought so far. Riverrossie, stock pulled like rocks. Have yet to pull them with the FP-45’s. Seems they hate the FP-45’s on a 18" turn. I have up grade the wheels with PK 2’s and Kaddes and roll much better F-7 A will haul them with its shorter truck.

Next step is Kaddes couplers or off to E-bay they go.

Full set of CZ cars by concor. Yaaa cant see the power up front, as the F3s havent arrived yet. Perhaps in a week or two, cant wait to take a head on shot.

Presently the passenger service in my layout is handled by an Athearn Budd RDC. Lettered for New York, New Haven, and Hartford. I have owned this car since the age of 6. When ever the paint does fall off, I will repaint it GN Big Sky Blue and number it one number obove the RDC they did roster as mine is an RDC-1 and GN’s real RDC is an RDC-3. I might buy the P2K RDC-3 in GN paint if I can find a good price on it. But if I find a steal on an Athearn one that is the route I will go and paint it up my self. I get more fun out of it that way.

I have lots of passenger cars, mostly walthers and kato. I run superliners, bi-levels, amfleets, budd heritage, and horizon equiptment. Also have lots of express box cars, roadrailers and auto train boxes as well.

My latest passenger car project is an alternately named set(s) of California Zephyrs. They are the ones produced by Broadway Limited. The members of the form have been helping me name. http://www.trains.com/TRC/CS/forums/1/647829/ShowPost.aspx#647829
And it looks like I’m a bit behind on processing some of the responses.

Here, two sets of them pass on a friends layout. When one looks close they will notice the consist is not exactly like that listed above, and the engineer for the close train is running the domes backwards!

Next project will be the Empire Builder that Walthers is getting ready to release.

I run a GO Transit commuter train sometimes, GO Trains only run with 10 Bombardier cars and a locomotive so thats the way I run mine, even though I have 14 Bombardier cars. I also run a VIA Rail train sometimes and have 3 passenger cars, a diner car and a baggage car.

Well all my passenger cars are still in boxes in the new basement, but on the old “St.Paul Route” layout I ran a couple of passenger trains: An “Iron Range Local” which was three Pullman green cars - usually an Athearn RPO/Baggage, a Rivarossi Coach, and Rivarossi Cafe/Observation car - loosely based on a typical DMIR passenger train of the early fifties. Usually pulled by a 4-6-0 or an A-B set of F units. My crack “Lake Superior Limited” is painted in a two - tone blue scheme with gold striping and has heavyweight IHC Baggage, Coach, Pullman, and Observation cars, with a Rivarossi diner in the middle. This usually got a 4-8-2, 4-6-4, or F units. I also have an RDC-3 I decorated for my RR, and just before dismantling the layout picked up a set of five Walthers Superliner 1 cars, which are pulled by a Spectrum F-40PH or Athearn P-42. I also have a boxed set of Rock Island Rocket cars waiting to be built, already have the E units ready to go with DCC and sound !!

I have two passenger trains:

1940s/50s era UP passenger train with a 4 car set of HO Spectrum heavyweights and a Kato business car. Hope to get a few Walthers Budd and Streamlined UP cars to make this train bigger, along with the new Rapido UP coaches. Typical power for this train is either my UP FEF-3, 4-8-2 or 2-8-0.

90s/Present Amtrak Pere Marquette. This consists of 3 Walthers Amtrak Horizon cars in Phase III, pulled by my Athearn RTR Amtrak P42 in Phase IV. Really great looking train.

2 B&M coaches (used tro be 3 but one sppoiled its truck so its in teh shops) a B&M diner, a D&H sleeper, and a NH coach and observation basicqalllyy a providence RI-Montreal Train NH RS3 brings train to West Concord mass where a B&M F7 is tacked on and the 2 double head the train west and back into troy NY union station, from there they head north to the Canadian border on D&H tracks where the 2 diesels are taken off and a CP streamlind pacific takes over [8D]

Actually there are 4 trains daily in each direction on the Bradford line. 2 are 10 cars, 2 are 6. I’m on the 6pm train 4 days out of 5.

I didn’t know that, all I ever see is the Oshawa to Toronto trains and they are always 10 cars. Thanks for the info…
