There’s been a lot of snide remarks on this forum about ‘white boxcars with shackles’. Well, imagine my surprise when I was in Fallon, Nevada last week and found these sitting just off Hwy 50, across from the Depot Cafe:
U.S. Army clearly stenciled on these white boxcars—nine of 'em in all. Inside, unfortunately the interior shots didn’t turn out but there were eyebolts in the floor and tie downs on the walls. Here’s a second shot with the S.P. caboose bringing up the rear:
From things such as this, the stuff of legends is born…
“Moonbat.” Where do I begin. People who believe every far out, wierd, obscure, crystal driven, absolute nonsenseable, ‘waaaay’ out in left field, I told you the government is in on it, nutjob, kook, etc… explanination for everything. The word is not my own. I lifted it from the radio talk show host Howie Carr. WRKO, Boston.
Well, I took the pictures last Thursday and the only site they have been posted too is here. I don’t know what the boxcars were used for. I just found it interesting that so many folks laugh about white box cars and shackles----and yet, here’s nine, white box cars that have U.S. Army stenciled on the sides with U bolts and attachement hooks inside. What were they used for? Who knows…?
These photographs bring to mind the punchline of a timeworn joke, “Just because I am paranoid does not necessarily mean what I am saying is not true.” They probably have a benign purpose, but they do exist. What is the most remarkable thing is that despite having been rumoured to exist for quite awhile, this is the first time they have been “caught” on film. Hiding in plain sight is another reason to believe that, by the fact they are, it’s likely they are run of the mill…Years ago I had an uncle who worked for the CIA. At family gatherings, he would sneak away to use the phone. One day I shadowed him to the hallway where the phone was located. He picked up the phone, ran off what sounded like a serial number…and pronounced his name and hung up. He would take “business trips” overseas which I noticed, over time, would coincide with certain crisis situations in the world. For everything we do know, there are twenty we don’t…if you want to read a sobering book grounded in reality on this subject, I suggest “Secrecy” by the late Senator Patrick Moynihan. Black budgets with no oversight…no wonder there is a permanent rumour mill.
One of the problems with classification is that it leads to conspiracy theories - the Roswell incident is perhaps a perfect example. There strange wreckage was discovered near an Air Force Base with what appeared to be minature corpses and weird machinery. Immediately, the wreckage area was cordoned off - and a blatent cover story was created (them saying it was a routine weather baloon). Thus the ingredients for a massive conspiracy theory are there. Over 50 years later, the Air Force finally explained that the Roswell wreckage was a balloon taking part in a Top Secret atmospheric monitoring project to see if the Soviet Union was testing atomic weapons. The “corpses” were dummies (although its still unclear why that balloon would have been carrying them) commonly used in testing - and the weird machinery was the atmospheric measuring equipment - but by then, the conspiracy theory (of an alien craft) had been out there. Obviously, revealing a top secret espionage program wasn’t an option at the time - and perhaps the Air Force preferred people thinking they were covering up a alien spacecraft crash than covering up what was really going on at the base (considering, Roswell is near White Sands Missile Range - thus a lot of our top secret nuclear weapons and missile research activities were taking place in the areas in the late 1940s).
In fact, some may argue that conspiracy theories actually help the national security state - and the the military and national security would rather have people chasing conspiracy theories than asking what is really going on - after all, a lot of the conspiracy theories have threads of the truth. Area 51 is real, for example - its on the Nevada Test Site and its a Top Secret/Restricted area. The Air Force and Department of Energy definitely would rather have people focus on weird X-Files conspiracies than what really happened ther
As far as Roswell is concerned, which I personally consider a red herring, however, go to the CIA website and there is an accounting of their inflitration of UFO groups written by one of their officers. Its a textbook case of disinformation and misdirection of attention-manipulation akin to a sleight of hand stage magicians have utilized for years. Look here-not there.
From the CIA website:"This collection catalogues CIA information on this subject from the 1940s through the early 1990s. Most of the documents concern CIA cables reporting unsubstantiated UFO sightings in the foreign press and intra-Agency memos about how the Agency handled public inquiries about UFO sightings. For the most recent CIA information on UFOs, see the article “CIA’s Role in the Study of UFOs, 1947-90” at the Center for the Study of Intelligence website (http://www.odci.gov/csi). The article is located in On-line Publications under the “Studies in Intelligence” section, specifically semi-annual Edition #1, 1997. "
Whats amazing is how precise the intelligence is…despite all the bad press in light of the Iraq War Part 2. Here’s one from China;
They probably still monitor it but my understanding is that now this responsibility has been shifted to military intelligence services under the umbrella of the Pentagon. In foreign countries this is routinely done via miltary channels routing being accomplished by embassy staff. That is why the CIA has “promoted” this disclosure. It reminds me of the cattle mutilation scenario-these areas were downwind of atomic explosions conducted during the testing phase of nuclear weapontry-the mouth, anal and blood sampling is a covert long range study of long
Very interesting - the CIA also has some information regarding the UFOs (and specifically its connection to the then Top Secret U2 flight program) in this at times heavily redacted document https://www.cia.gov/csi/books/U2/u2.pdf dealing with the U2 program 1954-1974 (in fact, entire sections are redacted due to being classified). The section on UFOs (specifically Project Blue Book) and the connection to U2s appears on page 72-73. This document shows that by comparing U2 flights with UFO reports, at least half of the UFO sightings were at the same time as U2 flights. As this document shows, the budgets for the U2 program from the 1950s are still classified SECRET NOFORN! Also still classified as SECRET 50 years later is the location where the U2 was tested (maybe because its at a base/airport that doesn’t officially exist yet everyone knows about it)!!!
Interesting stuff indeed-it’s amazing especially when you consider that there is alot of stuff still classified from WW2. It was’nt that long ago, the invasion plans for Japan aka Operation Olympic were finally released! There is a website run by a teenager (which is pretty amazing in of itself) which has a huge compendium of FOIA documents called The Black Vault. It’s full of this kind of stuff, which is fascinating at times if you bypass and ignore the goofy blog and posts.
I’ll check that out sometime! The Cold War is an interesting time in history - one of my favorite resources is the Prelinger Archives (at http://www.archives.org ) which contains several government films from the early Cold War like the classic “Duck and Cover.” As someone born post-Watergate, its amazing to see a time (that was within the last 50 years) where our government had near total latitude to cover up and hide the truth from the American public. It all crashed down, literally, in May 1960 with the U2 incident. While we might laugh about conspiracy theories, like there being White Boxcars filled with shackles, its at least as irrational to blindly trust the government. You need to find the line behind healthy skepticism and paranoia.
I always think of the Firesign Theatre’s “What to Do in Case of a Flying Saucer Attack” skit from “Everything You Know is Wrong” whenever dealing with the Government’s involvement with flying saucers and Cold War attitudes. “They think he is crazy, but he outranks them”!
Its also kind of scary in an extremely humorous way how accurate in retrospect the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show was about the Cold War!
These cars are not even able to move! The boxcars all have FRICTION TRUCKS whch are banned from interchange service, and look at the caboose, it has been whitelined, or retired.
